1. Apoptosis in the myelodysplastic syndromes : protective effect of G-CSF
Abstract : Increased apoptosis of hematopoietic progenitor cells is a hallmark for the myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and one of the main reasons for the ineffective hematopoiesis and subsequent cytopenia characteristic for the disease. In particular in low risk MDS, such as refractory anemia (RA) and refractory anemia with ringed sideroblasts (RARS), severe transfusion-dependent anemia leading to constant fatigue and weakness and therefore reduced quality of life often constitutes the main clinical problem. 2. Precise measurements of electron affinities using Laser Photodetachment Threshold Spectroscopy
Abstract : In this work we have performed Laser Photodetachment Threshold Spectroscopy (LPTS) to determine the electron affinities of the atomic species $^{133}$Cs and $^{16}$O with high precision. The negative ion of Cesium has been produced and investigated at the Gothenburg University Negative Ion and Laser LAboratory (GUNILLA) while the Oxygen anion have been studied in the Double ElectroStatic Ion Ring ExpEriment (DESIREE) at Stockholm University. 3. The silicon vacancy in SiC
Abstract : SiC has for decades been considered to be a very promising semiconductor, but several problems related to the material quality, did earlier prevent an exploitation of the supreme electrical characteristics of the material. Now most of these problems have been overcome, high quality material can be grown and research around this material is going through an intense phase of development. READ MORE

4. EVOX-CPS : A Methodology For Data-Driven Optimization Of Building Operation
Abstract : Existing building stock’s energy efficiency must improve due to its significant proportion of the global energy consumption mix. Predictive building control promises to increase the efficiency of buildings during their operational phase and thus lead to a reduction of the lion’s share of buildings’ lifetime energy consumption. 5. Interaction mechanisms for a laser-induced metallic boiling front
Abstract : This thesis is about fundamental interaction mechanisms of laser remote fusion cutting, RFC, which is based on the formation of a quasi-stationary laser-induced boiling front that causes drop ejection, preferably downwards. Laser cutting of metals, invented in 1967, has developed from a niche to a well established high quality cutting technique in the manufacturing industry. READ MORE
