1. Climate-induced ecological change in subarctic lakes - Evidence from biological archives, long-term monitoring, and contemporary field studies
Abstract : Northern lakes have a unique flora and fauna and are sensitive ecosystems that experience rapid rates of change. Multiple environmental changes are currently affecting these lakes, including climate-induced oligotrophication, with nutrient levels decreasing in waters throughout the Scandinavian mountain range. 2. Modeling of radiative processes in organic scintillators
Abstract : This thesis presents the development of a Monte Carlo calibration of a whole body counter (WBC), consisting of four large plastic (organic) scintillators, used for determine the body burden of gamma-emitting radionuclides. A scintillator emits optical photons after energy has been deposited by an ionizing particle in the scintillator material. READ MORE

3. Towards a Flexible Monte Carlo Calibration of a Whole Body Counter Spectrometer System - Highlighting the Need of Increased Model Complexity for Large Plastic Scintillators
Abstract : Whole body counters, WBC, can be used for fast and accurate screening and follow-ups in the case of an emergency situation involving ionizing radiation given that the WBC calibration method is fast and versatile. A Monte Carlo model of a WBC system could meet these requirements under the condition that the model is an accurate description of the WBC system. READ MORE

4. Towards systematic prevention of athletics injuries : Use of clinical epidemiology for evidence-based injury prevention
Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to outline the design protocol for a prospective clinical epidemiological study of injuries among athletics athletes; study the 1-year prevalence, the point prevalence and incidence of injuries in total cohorts of Swedish elite adult and talented youth athletics athletes; pinpoint the risk indicators and factors for different injury types/patterns in athletics. In paper I, an argument-based method to investigate complex design problems was used to structure the collection and analysis of data. 5. Lived transitions : experiences of learning and inclusion among newly arrived students
Abstract : This thesis explores how newly arrived students experience conditions for learning and inclusion in their lived transitions within the Swedish school system. The thesis deploys an ethnographic approach combining interviews with participant observation. READ MORE
