  1. 1. Pro- and anti-inflammatory actions in coronary artery disease : with focus on CD56+ T cells and Annexin A1

    Author : Ida Bergström; Lena Jonasson; Eva Särndahl; Jan Ernerudh; Johan Frostegård; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : ¨The atherosclerotic process is considered to be driven by an imbalance between proand anti-inflammatory actions. Still, the inflammatory state in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) remains to be clarified. READ MORE

  2. 2. Autoantibodies and the Type I Interferon System in the Etiopathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

    Author : Stina Blomberg; Johan Frostegård; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Systemic lupus erythematosus; type I interferon; interferon inducer; dendritic cell; natural interferon-alpha producing cell; immune complex; SSA Ro; dsDNA; BDCA; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : In sera remitted for anti-nuclear antibody (ANA) analysis, the supplement of a sensitive anti-SSA/Ro ELISA to the conventional ANA screening by immunofluorescence (IF) revealed that one fourth of the individuals with IF-ANA negative, but SSA/Ro ELISA positive sera, had systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or cutaneous LE. Consequently, adding a sensitive anti-SSA/Ro ELISA to the ANA screening is valuable for the serological detection of ANA negative SLE/LE patients. READ MORE

  3. 3. Innate immunity in human atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction : Role of CARD8 and NLRP3

    Author : Geena Paramel Varghese; Karin Fransén; Allan Sirsjö; Liza Ljungberg; Johan Frostegård; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atherosclerosis; Inflammasome; NLRP3; CARD8; Myocardial infarction; Endothelial cells; Polymorphism; IL-1β; Cytokines; Innate immunity; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is complex inflammatory disease of the arterial wall with progressive accumulation of lipids and narrowing of the vessel. Increasing evidence suggest that inflammation plays an important role in plaque stability and often accelerate cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction (MI). READ MORE

  4. 4. C-reactive protein (CRP) and anti-CRP autoantibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus : a study on the occurrence and clinical implications of anti-CRP antibodies and CRP-mediated complement activation

    Author : Christopher Sjöwall; Thomas Skogh; Johan Frostegård; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autoantibodies; complement activation; C-reactive protein; cytokines; immune complex; immunoregulation; opsonization; systemic lupus erythematosus; Rheumatology; Reumatologi;

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of a wide range of autoantibodies, multiple organ involvement and by local formation or tissue deposition of immune complexes (ICs) in the inflamed organs. In contrast to most systemic inflammatory conditions, and despite raised levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, SLE flares are rarely reflected by elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), an important acute-phase reactant in man with homologs in vertebrates and several invertebrates.
