6. Evolution and Development of the Onychophoran Head and Nervous System
Abstract : Onychophorans are closely allied to the arthropods and possess a body organisation more similar to Middle Cambrian fossils than to recent arthropods. This means that onychophorans in some respects can be regarded as a model for the last common ancestor to both the Arthropoda and the Onychophora. READ MORE

7. Reading the Sky : From Starspots to Spotting Stars
Abstract : This thesis encompasses two research fields in astronomy: astrometry and astronomy education and they are discussed in two parts. These parts represent two sides of a coin; astrometry, which is about constructing 3D representations of the Universe, and AER, where for this thesis, the goal is to investigate university students’ and lecturers’ disciplinary discernment vis-à-vis the structure of the Universe and extrapolating three-dimensionality. 8. The zoo-geomorphological impact of fossorial rodents in sub-polar alpine environments
Abstract : The geomorphological impact of small fossorial mammals (adapted to digging and living underground), such as rodents can be significant, and both their direct and indirect effects may contribute to landscape formation. This thesis is based on empirical field studies of two burrowing rodent species in sub-polar environments, namely invasive House mice (Mus musculus) on sub-Antarctic Marion Island and Norwegian lemmings (Lemmus lemmus) in sub-Arctic Abisko. 9. Isolation, Synthesis and Structure-Activity Relationships of Antifeedants against the Pine Weevil, Hylobius Abietis
Abstract : The large pine weevil, Hylobius abietis L., is a major insect pest on conifer seedlings in northern Europe. Due to its feeding newly planted trees get girdled, resulting in high seedling mortality (up to 80%). As a consequence great financial losses to the forest industry occur. READ MORE

10. Characterisation and modelling of radio-frequency lesioning in functional neurosurgery
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the characterisation and modelling of the radio frequency (RF) lesioning with emphasis on size estimation in functional neurosurgery. A computer-assisted video system has been set up for standardised test and documentation of protein clots generated by RF-lesioning electrodes in an albumin solution. READ MORE
