  1. 1. Conformal Einstein spaces and Bach tensor generalization in n dimensions

    Author : Jonas Bergman Ärlebäck; Brian Edgar; Magnus Herberthson; Mattias Marklund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : In this thesis we investigate necessary and su±cient conditions for an n-dimensional space, n ≥ 4, to be locally conformal to an Einstein space. After reviewing the classical results derived in tensors we consider the four-dimensional spinor result of Kozameh, Newman and Tod. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mathematical modelling in upper secondary mathematics education in Sweden

    Author : Jonas Bergman Ärlebäck; Christer Bergsten; Bharath Sriraman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to investigate and enhance our understanding of the notions of mathematical models and modelling at the Swedish upper secondary school level. Focus is on how mathematical models and modelling are viewed by the different actors in the school system, and what characterises the collaborative process of a didactician and a group of teachers engaged in designing and developing, implementing and evaluating teaching modules (so called modelling modules) exposing students to mathematical modelling in line with the present mathematics curriculum. 3. 3. Mathematical modelling in upper secondary school in Sweden : An exploratory investigation

    Author : Peter Frejd; Christer Bergsten; Jonas Ärlebäck Bergman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : The official curriculum guidelines for upper secondary school in Sweden emphasise the use of mathematical models and mathematical modelling in mathematics education. However, no explicit definitions or descriptions of the notions are given in the curriculum. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modes of Mathematical Modelling : An analysis of how modelling is used and interpreted in and out of school settings

    Author : Peter Frejd; Christer Bergsten; Jonas Ärlebäck Bergman; Rudolf Strässer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The relevance of using mathematics in and for out-of-school activities is one main argument for teaching mathematics in education. Mathematical modelling is considered as a bridge between the mathematics learned and taught in schools and the mathematics used at the workplace and in society and it is also a central notion in the present Swedish mathematical syllabus for upper secondary school. 5. 5. Exploring processes and resources for problem solving at the crossroads between chemistry and mathematics

    Author : Sofie Ye; Felix M. Ho; Maja Elmgren; Jonas Bergman Ärlebäck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; problem solving; mathematical modelling; chemical kinetics; chemistry education research; tertiary education; resources framework; mathematics education research; metacognition; intuition; Kemi; Chemistry; Curriculum Studies; Didaktik; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : Problem solving at the crossroads between chemistry and mathematics presents significant challenges for students at all levels of education. This licentiate thesis aims to enhance our understanding of such problem solving, with a focus on how university students approach problems in the context of chemical kinetics. READ MORE
