  1. 1. X-ray scattering and spectroscopy of supercooled water and ice

    Author : Jonas A. Sellberg; Anders Nilsson; Lars G. M. Pettersson; Thomas Loerting; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; supercooled water; ice; x-ray scattering; x-ray spectroscopy; free-electron laser; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents experimental studies of water and ice at near-atmospheric pressures using intense x-rays only accessible at synchrotrons and free-electron lasers. In particular, it focuses on the deeply supercooled, metastable state and its implications on ice nucleation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Biological Laboratory X-Ray Microscopy

    Author : Mikael Kördel; Hans Hertz; Ulrich Vogt; Jonas A. Sellberg; Rajmund Mokso; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-ray microscopy; laboratory x-ray microscopy; water window; biological; cell imaging; virus; Biological and Biomedical Physics; Biologisk och biomedicinsk fysik; Optik och fotonik; Optics and Photonics;

    Abstract : Soft x-ray microscopy in the water window (? ≈ 2.3 − 4.3 nm) is a powerful technique for high-resolution biological imaging. The strong natural contrast between carbon-based structures and water allows visualization of hydrated and unstained samples, while providing enough transmission through up to ∼ 10 μm of organic matter. 3. 3. Optical and x-ray studies of ice growth in water

    Author : Niloofar Esmaeildoost; Jonas Sellberg; Hans Hertz; Thomas Hansen; KTH; []
    Keywords : Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The key purpose of this thesis is to study the structure of metastable water and its transformation into ice upon deep supercooling using x-ray scattering as well as optical microscopy. In all experiments, micrometer-sized water droplets were evaporatively cooled in vacuum and probed either by x-rays or optical illumination. READ MORE
