  1. 1. Compression mechanisms and strength properties of semi- isostatically densified wood

    Author : Jonas Blomberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träteknik; Wood Technology; Densified wood;

    Abstract : Since most strength properties increase with increased wood density, densifying wood through compression will increase strength and wear resistance. After densification, wood with originally low density can substitute denser wood and originally dense wood can be used for purposes where wood is considered too soft, e.g. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mechanical and physical properties of semi-isostatically densified wood

    Author : Jonas Blomberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood Technology; Träteknik;

    Abstract : When wood is densified through semi-isostatical compression in a Quintus- press at pressures up to 140 MPa, the material properties change. The cells are flattened, size is decreased and shape is changed, as a consequence of this the density is increased. Most properties of native woods are strongly correlated to the density. READ MORE

  3. 3. PCR detection of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae in pneumonia patients

    Author : Guma M. K. Abdeldaim; Björn Herrmann; Jonas Blomberg; Kristoffer Strålin; Birgitta Henriques; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Lower respiratory tract infections; Pneumonia; Streptococcus pneumoniae; Haemophilus influenzae; real-time PCR;

    Abstract : PCR is a rapid, reproducible method for nucleic acid detection. However, this technology displays significant deficiencies when applied in clinical microbiology. This work’s aim was to improve current diagnostics and provide sensitive and quantitative real-time PCRs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Retroviral long Terminal Repeats; Structure, Detection and Phylogeny

    Author : Farid Benachenhou; Jonas Blomberg; Göran Sperber; Aris Katzourakis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Retrovirus; long terminal repeats; hidden Markov models; phylogeny; alignment; conserved motif; stem-loop; Clinical virology; Klinisk virologi; Klinisk virologi; Clinical Virology;

    Abstract : Long terminal repeats (LTRs) are non-coding repeats flanking the protein-coding genes of LTR retrotransposons. The variability of LTRs poses a challenge in studying them. Hidden Markov models (HMMs), probabilistic models widely used in pattern recognition, are useful in dealing with this variability. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of Real-Time PCR Based Methods for Detection of Viruses and Virus Antibodies

    Author : Amal Elfaitouri; Jonas Blomberg; Helene Norder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Microbiology; Real-time PCR; broadly targeted PCR; degenerated PCR; rTth DNA polymerase; thermolabile UNG; QPIA; IgM; Mikrobiologi;

    Abstract : Quantitative real-time PCR (QPCR) technology has been very useful for diagnosis of viral diseases. QPCR has recently reached a level of sensitivity, simplicity, and reproducibility which allows a large number of samples to be screened rapidly, make it a suitable tool for the clinical virology diagnostics.
