7. Synthesis of phosphate-containing oligosaccharides corresponding to capsular antigen structures from Haemophilus influenzae
Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis of spacer-equipped di- and trimeric oligosaccharide structures corresponding to fragments of the capsular polysaccharides of Haemophilus influenzae types c and f. Both of these polysaccharides are of the teichoic acid type, built up by disaccharide repeating units linked via interglycosidic phosphodiester bonds. READ MORE

8. On the phase behaviour of hydrogels : A theory of macroion-induced core/shell equilibrium
Abstract : Colloidal macroions are known to interact very strongly with oppositely charged polyionic hydrogels. Sometimes this results in a non-uniform distribution of the macroions within the gel, a phenomenon that is not fully understood. READ MORE

9. Generalised Ramsey numbers and Bruhat order on involutions
Abstract : This thesis consists of two papers within two different areas of combinatorics.Ramsey theory is a classic topic in graph theory, and Paper A deals with two of its most fundamental problems: to compute Ramsey numbers and to characterise critical graphs. More precisely, we study generalised Ramsey numbers for two sets Γ1 and Γ2 of cycles. READ MORE
