1. A Newton Method for Solving Non-Linear Optimal Control Problems with General Constraints
Abstract : Optimal control of general dynamic systems under realistic constraints on input signals and state variables is an important problem area in control theory. Many practical control problems can be formulated as optimization tasks, and this leads toa significant demand for efficient numerical solution algorithms. READ MORE

2. Investigating Amyloid β toxicity in Drosophila melanogaster
Abstract : In this thesis Drosophila melanogaster (the fruit fly) has been used as a model organism to study the aggregation and toxic properties of the human amyloid β (Aβ) peptide involved in the onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD). AD is one of many misfolding diseases where the important event of a protein to adopt its’ specific three-dimensional structure has failed, leading to aggregation and formation of characteristic amyloid fibrils. 3. Suicidality and depression in older adults: Prevalence, predictors, and outcomes
Abstract : Older adults have the highest risk of suicide of all age groups. Depression is a major risk factor for suicide in late life, but is also associated with lower quality of life, somatic disorders, and premature death. The aim of the thesis was to deepen the understanding of suicidality and depression in the oldest segment of the population. READ MORE

4. Identification and Forensic Classification of Amphetamine
Abstract : Amphetamine is one of the most abused drugs worldwide. In the fight against the manufacture and illegal distribution of amphetamine, the contribution from forensic laboratories is the identification of the drug and the establishment of links between seizures. These links contribute to the disclosure of distribution chains and illicit laboratories. READ MORE

5. Molecular studies of pancreatic cancer: Characterization of the transforming growth factor beta signaling pathway
Abstract : In the present thesis, genetic abnormalities in pancreatic cancer were studied, with special emphasis on alterations of components involved in the transforming growth factor beta (TGFB) signaling pathway. In the first study, fluorescence in situ hybridization and cytogenetic analyses revealed aberrations of chromosome 18 in all 13 pancreatic carcinoma cell lines studied, in particular frequent breaks close to the centromere of chromosome arm 18q.
