  1. 1. An Investigation of the Influence of Knee Flexion Angle on the Activity of the Triceps Surae Muscles during the Heel-Raise Test

    Author : Kim Hébert-Losier; S. John Sullivan; Anthony G. Schneiders; José A. García; Univeristy of Otago; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomechanics; Electromyography; Triceps surae; Achilles tendon; Plantar flexion; Heel raise test; Physiotherapy; Rehabilitation; Musculoskeletal; Movement analysis; Muscle endurance; Maximum voluntary isometric contraction;

    Abstract : Background: The heel-raise test (HRT) is used in clinical practice and research to assess the triceps suare (TS) muscles. The test involves repetitive unilateral heel-raises in upright stance. The test is administered with the knee straight for gastrocnemius medialis (GM) and lateralis (GL), and with the knee bent for soleus (SOL). READ MORE

  2. 2. Engineering rubber bushing stiffness formulas including dynamic amplitude dependence

    Author : Maria-José Garcia; Leif Kari; Anders Ågren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Construction engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Engineering design models for the torsion and axial dynamic stiffness of carbon black filled rubber bushings in the frequency domain including amplitude dependence are presented. They are founded on a developed material model which is the result of applying a separable elastic, viscoelastic and friction rubber component model to the material level. READ MORE

  3. 3. Designing a Modern Skeleton Programming Framework for Parallel and Heterogeneous Systems

    Author : August Ernstsson; Christoph Kessler; José Daniel García Sánchez; Herbert Kuchen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High‐level parallel programming; Algorithmic skeletons; Heterogeneous systems; High‐performance computing;

    Abstract : Today's society is increasingly software-driven and dependent on powerful computer technology. Therefore it is important that advancements in the low-level processor hardware are made available for exploitation by a growing number of programmers of differing skill level. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Use of Press Archives in the Temporal and Spatial Analysis of Rainfall-Induced Landslides in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, 1980-2005

    Author : Elias Garcia-Urquia; Kristofer Gamstedt; José Cepeda; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; press archives; landslide database; urban landslides; critical rainfall intensity; antecedent rainfall; rainfall frequency contour lines; matrix method; landslide susceptibility index; Tegucigalpa; Honduras; Hurricane Mitch; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys; Earth Science with specialization in Environmental Analysis;

    Abstract : The scarcity of data poses a challenging obstacle for the study of natural disasters, especially in developing countries where the social vulnerability plays as important a role as the physical vulnerability.  The work presented in this thesis is oriented towards the demonstration of the usefulness of press archives as a data source for the temporal and spatial analysis of landslides in Tegucigalpa, Honduras for the period between 1980 and 2005. 5. 5. Categorical Unification

    Author : María Ángeles Galán García; Patrik Eklund; José Meseguer; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Datalogi; Monad compositions; generalised terms; many-valued logic; Datalogi; Computer science; Datalogi; business data processing; administrativ databehandling;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with different aspects towards many-valued unification which have been studied in the scope of category theory. The main motivation of this investigation comes from the fact that in logic programming, classical unification has been identified as the provision of coequalizers in Kleisli categories of term monads.
