2. Quantum effects in nanoscale Josephson junction circuits
Abstract : This thesis presents the results of an experimental study on single-charge effects in nanoscale Josephson junctions and Cooper pair transistors (CPTs). In nanoscale Josephson junctions the charging energy EC becomes significant at sub-Kelvin temperatures and single-charge effects, such as the Coulomb blockade of Cooper pair tunneling, influence the transport properties. 3. Interactions and Interference in Mesoscopic Systems: Josephson Current through Quantum Dots and Josephson Junction Arrays
Abstract : The focus of the thesis is on the interplay between interactions and interference effects in mesoscopic systems. More specifically, the two main projects included deal with Coulomb interactions and Josephson effect in two superconductor-normal metal systems: (i) a Josephson junction array and (ii) a superconductor-normal metal-superconductor (SNS) system in which the normal part is a quantum dot. 4. Nonlinear dynamics of Josephson Junction Chains and Superconducting Resonators
Abstract : This thesis presents the results of the experimental studies on two kindof Superconducting circuits: one-dimensional Josephson junction chains andsuperconducting coplanar waveguide (CPW) resonators. One-dimensionalJosephson junction chains are constructed by connecting many Superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) in series. READ MORE

5. d-wave Josephson Junctions
Abstract : The properties of d-wave YBCO Josephson junctions and dc-SQUIDs with high misorientation angles have beenstudied experimentally .The predominant d-wave symmetry of the pairing wavefunction in high-Tc superconductors has, to a large extent, beena hinderance in applications, but it also makes it possible to fabricate devices with novel properties that may be suitablefor applications in the quantum regime; one particulary interesting property is a strong second harmonic component in the current-phase relation ofjunctions with the electrodes oriented in a node-lobe arrangement; so-called 0-45 junctions.
