  1. 1. Ion Transport in Glial and Neuroblastoma Cells

    Author : Sonya K. A. Juthberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to increase our understanding of the ion channel function and the ion transport mechanisms in glial cells. The analysis has also covered Na channel function in human neuroblastoma cells in order to get a basis for similar studies of glial cells In paper I isotopes 42K and 201 Tl were used to compare the K+ transport properties in cell lines from human malignant gliomas (U-251MG and Tp-378MG), carcinomas, and brain metastasis. 2. 2. The surface complex of Euglena gracilis. Involvement in cellular movements and biochemical and molecular analyses of the components

    Author : Silja K Petersen-Mahrt; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UV-B radiation; tubulin; surface complex; plasma membrane; phylogeny; phototaxis; nitrogen deficiency; membrane skeleton; Euglena gracilis; actin; cell shape; Physiological biophysics; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : The flagellate Euglena gracilis shows rhythms in phototaxis and cell shape changes between oblong and round. Artificial UV-B radiation of 0.5 W m-2 caused a loss in phototaxis, but the peak of activity occurred at the same time as for control cells. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Biophysics of Na+,K+-ATPase in neuronal health and disease

    Author : Evgeny E. Akkuratov; Hjalmar Brismar; Anita Aperia; Stefan Wennmalm; Poul Nissen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Na ; K -ATPase; NMDA receptor; ouabain; phosphoproteome; oligomerization; rapid-onset dystonia-parkinsonism; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Abstract : Na+,K+-ATPase is one of the most important proteins in the mammalian cell. It creates sodium and potassium gradients which are fundamental for the membrane potential and sodium-dependent secondary active transport. READ MORE

  4. 4. Human muscle spindles : complex morphology and structural organisation

    Author : Jing-Xia Liu; William K. Ovalle; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : human; muscle spindle; intrafusal fiber; aging; biceps brachii; deep muscles of the neck; MyHC; mATPase; SERCA; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : Muscle spindles are skeletal muscle mechanoreceptors that mediate the stretch reflex and provide axial and limb position information to the central nervous system. They have been proposed to play a major role in the pathophysiology of muscle pain. READ MORE

  5. 5. Novel aspects of Na+,K+-ATPase

    Author : Oleg Aizman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Na; K-A TPase; PKA; PKC; dopamine; ouabain; cell attachment; Ca2 ; oscillations; steroid; transcriptional regulation; IP3R.;

    Abstract : Na,K-ATPase, an integral membrane protein expressed in each eukaryotic cell, serves as the major determinant of intracellular ion composition. In the current study we investigated novel aspects of Na,K-ATPase function and regulation. It is well established that Na,K-ATPase activity is regulated by reversible phosphorylation. READ MORE
