  1. 11. Nonlinear Optics Studies on the MAX IV Storage Rings

    Author : David K Olsson; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; accelerator physics; synchrotron; storage ring; magnetic optics; non-linear optics; characterisation; optimisation;

    Abstract : The MAX IV Laboratory in Lund, Sweden, houses two electron storage rings operating at the energies 1.5, and 3 GeV. Both of these produce high-brilliance synchrotron radiation for beamline users. While the 1. READ MORE

  2. 12. Superconducting kinetic inductance devices for nanoscale force sensing

    Author : August K. Roos; David B. Haviland; Hélène le Sueur; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optomechanics; force sensing; atomic force microscopy; kinetic inductance; superconductivity; strain; meandering nanowires; optomekanik; kraftavkänning; atomkraftsmikroskopi; kinetisk induktans; supraledning; töjning; slingrande nanotrådar; Material and Nano Physics; Material- och nanofysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we present a force sensor for atomic force microscopy based on cavity optomechanical principles. We explain the function, design, fabrication and characterisation of the force sensor. The mechanical part of the force sensor consists of a cantilever with a very fine tip. READ MORE

  3. 13. Effects of wood ash on freshwater organisms and aquatic forest ecosystems

    Author : K. Andreas Aronsson; Nils Ekelund; Thomas Palo; Olli-Pekka Penttinen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wood ash; Euglena gracilis; Gammarus pulex; Fontinalis antipyretica; pH; alkalinity; toxicity; nutrients; first order stream; Askåterföring; Vedaska; Akvatiska näringssystem; Mineralnäring; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Wood ash application (WAA) has been recommended mainly for two reasons; i) to avoid depletion of minerals in the soil due to whole tree harvest in the forestry and ii) to mitigate harmful effects of acidification of soil and surface waters. In conclusion, the effects on terrestrial ecosystems and, especially, tree growth, can be attributed to the properties of the ash, the dose applied and the specific site at which the ash is applied. 4. 14. Transcriptomic and functional studies of fusion oncogene-driven salivary gland tumors

    Author : Maryam K. Afshari; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fusion oncogene; MYB; NFIB; PLAG1; HMGA2; adenoid cystic carcinoma; pleomorphic adenoma; targeted therapy;

    Abstract : Fusion genes are potent oncogenic drivers resulting from exchange of regulatory/coding sequences between two genes. They were originally identified in leukemias but are now recognized as key oncogenic events also in many solid tumors, including salivary gland tumors (SGTs). READ MORE

  5. 15. Defining the importance of protein geranylgeranylation in innate immunity

    Author : Murali K Akula; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CAAX proteins; GGTase-I; RAC1; statins;

    Abstract : RHO family proteins and other intracellular proteins are prenylated with a 20-carbon lipid—a product of the cholesterol synthesis pathway—by protein geranylgeranyltransferase type I (GGTase-I). Prenylation is widely believed to target proteins to membranes where they encounter effector molecules that stimulate GTP-binding and activation. READ MORE
