  1. 1. Simulation of Relaxation Processes in Fluorescence, EPR and NMR Spectroscopy

    Author : Pär Håkansson; Per-Olof Westlund; Yehudi K. Levine; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; EPR; NMR; Energy migration; bicontinuous cubic phase; Stochastic Liouville Equation; Brownian Dynamics; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Relaxation models are developed using numerical solutions of the Stochastic Liouville Equation of motion. Simplified descriptions such as the stochastic master equation is described in the context of fluorescence depolarisation experiments. Redfield theory is used in order to describe NMR relaxation in bicontinuous phases. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exploration of bacteria associated with Anopheles mosquitoes around the world : For the prevention of transmission of malaria

    Author : Louise K. J. Nilsson; Olle Terenius; Staffan Svärd; Sebastian Håkansson; Michael Strand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microbiota; microbiome; vector-borne disease; 16S rRNA gene; amplicon sequencing; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Abstract : Every year, hundreds of thousands of people die from malaria. Malaria is a disease caused by parasites, which are spread by female vector mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles. Current control measures against malaria are based on drugs against the parasites and vector control using insecticides. READ MORE

  3. 3. Home care communication : moving beyond the surface

    Author : Jessica Höglander; Inger K. Holmström; Jakob Håkansson Eklund; Annelie J. Sundler; Bjöörn Fossum; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : communication; home care services; nursing staff; older persons; person-centred care; RIAS; VR-CoDES; Care Sciences; vårdvetenskap;

    Abstract : Communication is an essential part of care and human interaction. While communication within care entails both task-focused and socio-emotional elements, nurses are sometimes perceived as too task-focused. When in need of care, older persons want to be perceived and treated as individuals – to feel involved. READ MORE

  4. 4. Apoptosis induced by a human milk protein complex. Cellular and structural studies in tumour cells and bacteria

    Author : Anders Håkansson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; Immunology; nuclear uptake; caspases; mitochondria; S. pneumoniae; alpha-lactalbumin; milk; breast-feeding; Apoptosis; tumour cells; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : Human milk contains a vast array of bioactive molecules, with nutritional and protective functions. This thesis describes the effects of a human milk protein complex, MAL, on tumour cells and bacteria. During our studies on the anti-adhesive properties of human milk we observed that a milk fraction killed tumour cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Behavioural differences and genetic relationships between four captive populations of red junglefowl (Gallus gallus) : possible implications for conservation

    Author : Jennie Håkansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Red junglefowl; behavioural differences; genetic relationships; captive populations; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Conservation of species is to a large extent carried out by zoos where animals are kept in small populations under protected conditions. The ultimate goal of such ex situ conservation programs is to eventually reintroduce the animals into natural habitats to provide support for the survival of the species. READ MORE
