1. Discrete element modelling of the mechanical behaviour of lithium-ion battery electrode layers
Abstract : Since their introduction in the late 20th century, lithium-ion batteries have become the leading battery technology for portable devices and electric vehicles due to their high energy density and rechargeability. However, the increasing demand for a longer battery life span is hindered by the fading of the battery’s charge capacity over prolonged use. READ MORE

2. Ab initio and phenomenological modeling of materials related to CVD hard coatings
Abstract : This thesis describes the work based on two different tools in computational materials science: a first-principles approach, namely that of density functional theory, and the CALPHAD approach. These two methods were used in this work to calculate properties of materials related to hard coatings, in particular coatings produced with chemical vapor deposition for the purpose of wear protection in cutting tools. 3. Combinatorial complexes, Bruhat intervals and reflection distances
Abstract : The various results presented in this thesis are naturallysubdivided into three different topics, namely combinatorialcomplexes, Bruhat intervals and expected reflection distances. Each topic is made up of one or several of the altogether sixpapers that constitute the thesis. READ MORE

4. Frequency Domain Linearized Navier-Stokes Equations Methods for Low Mach Number Internal Aeroacoustics
Abstract : Traffic is a major source of environmental noise in modern day's society. As a result, the development of new vehicles are subject to heavy governmental legislations. The major noise sources on common road vehicles are engine noise, transmission noise, tire noise and, at high speeds, wind noise. READ MORE

5. Leveraging HVPE for III-V/Si Integration and Mid-Infrared Photonic Device Fabrication
Abstract : This work covers the implementation of highly specialized epitaxial techniques enabled by the near-equilibrium hydride vapor-phase epitaxy growth process in III-V/Si integration for Si-based tandem solar cells and photoelectrochemical reactions, quasi phase matching GaP structures on GaAs substrates, and regrowth of InP:Fe on quantum cascade lasing structures.III-V/Si integration is an important topic in several fields of research with a significant one being solar energy harvesting.
