  1. 1. Cardiac Troponins in Patients with Suspected or Confirmed Acute Coronary Syndrome : New Applications for Biomarkers in Coronary Artery Disease

    Author : Kai Eggers; Bertil Lindahl; Stefan James; Paul Collinson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Internal medicine; Ischemic heart disease; Acute myocardial infarction; Troponin; Natriuretic peptide; CRP; Cystatin C; Artificial neural network; Point of care measurements; Risk prediction; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : The cardiac troponins are the biochemical markers of choice for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and risk prediction in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In this thesis, the role of early serial cardiac troponin I (cTnI) testing was assessed in fairly unselected patient populations admitted because of chest pain and participating in the FAST II-study (n=197) and the FASTER I-study (n=380). 2. 2. Identification of pathophysiological and prognostic biomarkers in different types of myocardial infarction

    Author : Marcus Hjort; Bertil Lindahl; Kai M. Eggers; Helge Rørvik Røsjø; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardial infarction; biomarker; pathophysiology; prognosis; MINOCA; STEMI; NSTEMI; hjärtinfarkt; biomarkör; patofysiologi; prognos; MINOCA; STEMI; NSTEMI; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : The pathophysiological mechanisms of myocardial infarction (MI) with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) are largely unknown. Analogous, differences in pathobiology between ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) are incompletely understood. READ MORE

  3. 3. Unrecognized myocardial infarction and cardiac biochemical markers in patients with stable coronary artery disease

    Author : Anna Nordenskjöld; Bertil Lindahl; Ole Fröbert; Kai Eggers; Torbjørn Omland; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Unrecognized myocardial infarction; Coronary artery disease; Prevalence; Prognosis; Troponin; NT-proBNP; Galectin-3; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Aim: The overarching aim of the thesis was to explore the occurrence and clinical importance of two manifestations of myocardial injury; unrecognized myocardial injury (UMI) and altered levels of cardiac biochemical markers in patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD).Methods: A prospective multicenter cohort study investigated the prevalence, localization, size, and prognostic implication of UMI in 235 patients with stable CAD.
