  1. 21. Surgical ablation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation in different patient populations : A study of clinical outcomes including rhythm, quality of life, atrial function and safety

    Author : Louise Bagge; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Mårten Rosenqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; surgical ablation; quality of life; vagal denervation; ganglionated plexi; left atrial function; epicardial; minimally invasive; left atrial ablation; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) have markedly reduced quality of life (QoL) and catheter ablation has become a useful tool in the rhythm control therapy. However, because of the poor outcome for patients with persistent AF, new surgical ablation strategies for rhythm control are emerging. READ MORE

  2. 22. Novel approaches using electrocardiographic imaging for early detection of ARVC in patients and relatives and symptoms preceding sudden death

    Author : Varvara Kommata; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Elena Sciaraffia; Domenico Corrado; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy; diagnosis; gene carriers; body surface mapping; electrocardiographic imaging; sudden cardiac death; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is an inherited disease of the myocardium, predominantly affecting the right ventricle (RV). Arrhythmias are common among patients with the disease and Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) can occur even in early stages. READ MORE

  3. 23. Outcomes and safety of new techniques for pulmonary vein isolation in patients with paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation : A study based on randomised trials and registries

    Author : David Mörtsell; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Stefan Lönnerholm; Isabel Deisenhofer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; antiarrhythmic drugs; ablation; cryoballoon; radiofrequency; pulmonary vein isolation; quality of life; arrhythmia monitoring; implantable cardiac monitor; atrial fibrillation burden; health economics; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common disease with a high prevalence in the adult population. Treatment of AF encompasses antiarrhythmic drugs and catheter ablation to reduce symptoms. READ MORE

  4. 24. Epicardial ablation - a study evaluating thoracoscopic and surgical ablation procedures for patients with intractable atrial fibrillation

    Author : Johan Probst; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Rasmus Borgquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; epicardial ablation; surgical ablation; quality of life; pulmonary vein isolation; mitral valve surgery; concomitant surgery; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common condition, increasing in prevalence with age. Symptoms can be severe and quality of life is affected in patients suffering from AF. Treatment regimes aim to alleviate symptoms through rate or rhythm control. READ MORE

  5. 25. Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Optimization : Comparison and Evaluation of Non-invasive Methods

    Author : Elena Sciaraffia; Carina Blomström Lundqvist; Giuseppe Boriani; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiac resynchronization therapy; device optimization; left ventricular contractility; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : The general purpose of this thesis was to investigate new cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) optimization techniques and to assess their reliability when compared to invasive measurements of left ventricular contractility (LV dP/dtmax).We first assessed whether cardiac output (CO) measured by trans-thoracic impedance cardiography could correctly identify the optimal interventricular (VV) pacing interval while using invasive measurements of LV dP/dtmax as reference.
