  1. 1. Novel functions of cardiovascular P2 receptors

    Author : Anna-Karin Wihlborg; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; mRNA; EDHF; UTP; UDP; ADP; ATP; P2 receptor; contraction; dilatation; endothelial cells; Heart; VSMC;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to examine the expression and function of the extracellular nucleotide P2 receptors in the cardiovascular system. In the cardiovascular system nucleotides are released during shear stress, hypoxia, ischemia, from endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, aggregating platelets, inflammatory cells and erythrocytes. 2. 2. Genetic studies on cardiovascular disease - identification of novel drug targets

    Author : Stefan Amisten; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; platelet; single nucleotide polymorphism; myocardial infarction; stent; G-protein coupled receptor; P2Y; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to identify novel potential drug targets of cardiovascular disease with a focus on G-protein coupled receptors. We identified a common genetic variant of the ATP receptor P2Y11, where an alanine is substituted with a threonine at position 87 of the P2Y11 receptor that increases the risk of developing acute myocardial infarction. 3. 3. Experimental and Clinical Studies on Platelet Receptors in Cardiovascular Disease

    Author : Oscar Braun; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; inflammation; athersosclerosis; platelets; thrombosis; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : The crucial role of platelets in maintaining primary hemostais has been evident for a long time and there is now also mounting evidence for their involvement in inflammation. In combination with aspirin, inhibition of the platelet P2Y12 ADP receptor with clopidogrel has become a cornerstone in the antiplatelet in acute coronary syndromes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Assessment of Left Ventricular Dysfunction and Remodelling by Determination of Atrioventricular Plane Displacement and Simplified Echocardiography

    Author : Ronnie Willenheimer; Kardiologiska klinikens forskargrupp; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; simplified echocardiography; atrioventricular plane displacement; diagnosis; screening; heart failure; prognostication; latent heart failure; left ventricular dysfunction; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : Heart failure is a common disease characterised by poor prognosis and frequent hospitalisations, constituting a major economic burden to society. Mortality and morbidity can be reduced by optimal treatment, requiring objective evaluation of cardiac function and anatomy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cellular electrophysiological modulation in chronic atrial fibrillation - Studies with magnesium and GIK solution

    Author : Max Ingemansson; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Action potential duration; Atrial cycle length; Atrial remodelling; Autonomic nervous system; AV-nodal; Conduction velocity; GIK; Magnesium; Resting membrane potential.; Refractoriness; Atrial fibrillation; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : Although chronic atrial fibrillation (CAF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia in man, the mechanisms involved in its progressive course are still not fully understood. Recent studies have verified an electrical remodelling of the atrial myocardium that may be responsible for the electrophysiological disturbances known to exist in the fibrillating atria. READ MORE
