  1. 16. Genetic studies on cardiovascular disease - identification of novel drug targets

    Author : Stefan Amisten; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; platelet; single nucleotide polymorphism; myocardial infarction; stent; G-protein coupled receptor; P2Y; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to identify novel potential drug targets of cardiovascular disease with a focus on G-protein coupled receptors. We identified a common genetic variant of the ATP receptor P2Y11, where an alanine is substituted with a threonine at position 87 of the P2Y11 receptor that increases the risk of developing acute myocardial infarction. 2. 17. Cognitive function and cardiovascular disease in relation to hypertension and adaptive behavior in the serial Color Word Test. Results from population study "Men born in 1914" in Malmö, Sweden

    Author : Lena André-Petersson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; Psykologi; Psychology; Color Word Test; Myocardial infarction; Stroke; Cardiac event; Adaptive behavior; Cognition; Hypertension; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Public health; epidemiology; Folkhälsa; epidemiologi;

    Abstract : "Men born in 1914" is a prospective cohort study on the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease. The study is run by the Department of Community Medicine, Lund University, Malmö. Five hundred men participated in the study when it started with a baseline examination in 1982/83. The men were then 68 years old. READ MORE

  3. 18. Structure and function of the cytoskeleton in cardiac and skeletal muscle

    Author : Johanna Balogh; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ATP-receptor; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; cardiomyopathy; transgenic mice; skeletal muscle; heart; muscle contraction; cytoskeleton; desmin;

    Abstract : We have examined the functional and structural roles of the cytoskeletal protein desmin in cardiac and skeletal muscles using a genetically modified mouse (Des-/-) with the desmin gene ablated. Desmin forms filaments at the Z-disks in the striated muscle sarcomere, have connections to the sarcolemma and most likely align sarcomeres and whole cells. READ MORE

  4. 19. Cardiac muscle injury in children and experimental animals. Reflections in ECG, especially high-resolution electrocardiography

    Author : Rolf Bennhagen; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; signal-averaging ECG; ischaemia; cardiac transplantation; Pediatri;

    Abstract : Background and Methods: Signal-averaging ECG (SAECG), a bioelectrical processing method, is a further development of the conventional ECG. SAECG can detect voltage potentials in the microvolt range and provide a noise-reduced determination of QRS duration. Extended frequency spectra can be analysed. READ MORE

  5. 20. S100B and Cardiac Surgery

    Author : Henrik Bjursten; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; S100-B; S100B; S100beta; brain damage; cardiac surgery; CABG; renal function; autotransfusion; Cardiovascular system; serum marker; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : The brain-derived protein S100B is a 21 Kda dimerand have been used as a serum marker for brain damage of different etiology. The feasability of protein S100B as serum marker for brain damage after cardiac surgery was studied in this thesis. One unexpected finding was made, which changed the basis for interpration of S100B levels. READ MORE
