  2. 2. Emissions of volatile organic compounds from wood

    Author : Karin Granström; Bengt Månsson; Ann-Margret Strömvall; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; VOC; terpenes; drying; wood; emissions; spouted bed; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : The central aim of this thesis is to support the efforts to counteract certain environmental problems caused by emissions of volatile organic compounds. The purpose of this work was (1) to develop a method to establish the amount of emitted substances from dryers, (2) to determine the effect of drying medium temperature and end moisture content of the processed material on emissions of monoterpenes and other hydrocarbons, (3) to examine the emissions of monoterpenes during production of pellets, and (4) to examine the natural emissions from forests with an eye to implications for modelling. 3. 3. Dynamics in meetings : on leadership and followership in ordinary meetings in different organizations

    Author : Kjell Granström; Karin Aronsson-Ottosson; Per Linell; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : group processes; leadership; followership; decision-making; the school as an organization; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : A method for analyzing interactional dynamics in regular meetings and sessions was developed on the basis of Bion's (1961) basic-assumption model. This model postulates that members in groups frequently take part in collective defence activities which prevent the group from carrying out the tasks assigned to them. READ MORE

  4. 4. Forest industry sludge as a resource for energy recovery

    Author : Alina Hagelqvist; Ola Holby; Karin Granström; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : Forest industries produce large amounts of carbon rich sludges as by-products in their processes. Presently sludge is treated as a poor quality biofuel for co-incineration, some mills treat it solely as a disposal problem. This thesis provides an introduction to production, composition and disposal issues of sludge. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sludge from pulp and paper mills for biogas production : Strategies to improve energy performance in wastewater treatment and sludge management

    Author : Alina Hagelqvist; Thomas Nilsson; Karin M. Granström; Bengt Månsson; Bo Mattiasson; Thomas Welander; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; anaerobic digestion; pulp and paper mill sludge; methane production; energy efficient sludge management; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : The production of pulp and paper is associated with the generation of large quantities of wastewater that has to be purified to avoid severe pollution of the environment. Wastewater purification in pulp and paper mills combines sedimentation, biological treatment, chemical precipitation, flotation and anaerobic treatment, and the specific combination of techniques is determined by the local conditions.
