  1. 1. Enantiospecific Analysis and Environmental Behavior of Chiral Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

    Author : Karin Wiberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Many persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are chiral. These pollutants are generally released into the environment as racemates, but frequently undergo alterations in enantiomeric composition as soon as they are subjected to life chemistry processes. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Histidine-rich Glycoprotein in Reproduction

    Author : Karin E Lindgren; Inger Sundström-Poromaa; Helena Åkerud; Eva Wiberg-Itzel; Lalit Kumar Parameswaran Grace; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; embryo culture medium; embryogenesis; embryonic secretome; endometrium; histidine-rich glycoprotein; human embryo development; human embryo implantation; human endometrial endothelial cells; in vitro fertilisation; infertility; male infertility; proximity extension assay; recurrent miscarriage; single nucleotide polymorphism; sperm quality; time-lapse technique; vascular endothelial growth factor;

    Abstract : Infertility affects 15% of reproductive-aged couples. The milieu surrounding the growing embryo is of outmost importance, and should be optimised during in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Many biological processes, such as angiogenesis, coagulation, and immune processes need to be well regulated for a pregnancy to occur and progress normally. READ MORE

  3. 3. Dispersal and environmental impact of contaminants in organic rich, fibrous sediments of industrial origin in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Anna Apler; Ian Snowball; Karin Wiberg; Kevin Bishop; Sarah Josefsson; Lovisa Zillén; Ida-Maja Hassellöv; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Fiberbank; fiber-rich sediments; metals; persistent organic pollutants; pore water; bottom water; dispersal; sorption; pulp and paper; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Abstract : The health of the Baltic Sea is negatively affected by hazardous substances such as metals and persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which include legacy pollutants that were banned decades ago, but still circulate in the ecosystem. Elevated levels of legacy pollutants, identified by HELCOM as key hazardous substances, have been found in accumulations of fibrous sediments, so-called fiberbanks and fiber-rich sediments, which derive from old pulp mills along the Swedish north coast. 4. 4. Trace analysis of dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with electron capture detection

    Author : Conny Danielsson; Peter Haglund; Karin Wiberg; Jean-Marie Dimandja; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography; GC × GC; µECD; PCDDs; PCDFs; dioxins; dioxin-like PCBs; Pressurized liquid extraction; PLE; PLE-C; food; feed; fly ash; soil; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), two groups of struc-turally related chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, generally referred to as “dioxins” are of great concern due to their extreme toxicity and presence in all compartments of the environment. Since they occur at very low levels, their analysis is complex and challenging, and there is a need for cost-efficient, reliable and rapid analytical alternatives to the expensive methods in-volving use of gas chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC-HRMS). Abstract : Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are hydrophobic substances that readily sorb to organic matter in particles and colloids instead of being freely dissolved in the water phase. This sorption affects the bioavailability and environmental transport of the POPs. READ MORE
