1. Cerium as a quantum state probe for rare-earth qubits in a crystal
Abstract : Rare-earth ions doped into a transparent crystal can have optically excited states with coherence times of milliseconds and hyperfine levels with coherence times of hours when cooled down to liquid helium temperatures. This makes them attractive for developing quantum computing hardware. READ MORE

3. Effects of arsenic trioxide and hypoxia in multidrug-resistant neuroblastoma
Abstract : Neuroblastoma is a childhood tumour derived from the sympathetic nervous system. Although most children with neuroblastoma initially respond to treatment, approximately 50% of these patients relapse with multidrug-resistant tumours. Arsenic trioxide (As2O3) has been used for centuries to treat different clinical disorders including malignancies. READ MORE

4. Regulation and characterization of antimicrobial peptides in man and mice
Abstract : The gene-encoded antimicrobial peptides have emerged as an important component of innate immunity. In mammals, antimicrobial peptides are either directly secreted from cells or found in cell granules, which can be released after stimuli. READ MORE

5. Survival of Cultured and Grafted Embryonic Dopaminergic Neurones - Effects of hypothermia and prevention of oxidative stress
Abstract : Transplantation of embryonic dopaminergic neurones can ameliorate symptoms in Parkinson’s disease, but a major obstacle for clinical transplantations to overcome is the low survival (typically 5-10%) of implanted nigral neurones. If cell death in nigral grafts can be prevented, less embryonic tissue would be needed per transplantation session and hence more patients could receive intracerebral grafts as a therapy for Parkinson’s disease.
