1. Seismological Investigation of Katla Volcanic System (Iceland) : 3D Velocity Structure and Overall Seismicity Pattern
Abstract : The work in this thesis concentrates on Katla volcano in southern Iceland. This is one of Europe’s most active volcanoes and its history tells us that it poses many threats to society, both locally (Iceland) and on a broader scale (Europe). READ MORE

2. Characterising volcanic magma plumbing systems : A tool to improve eruption forecasting at hazardous volcanoes
Abstract : This thesis attempts to develop our understanding of volcanic magma plumbing systems and the magmatic processes that operate within them, such as fractional crystallisation, crustal partial melting, assimilation, and magma mixing. I utilise petrology, rock and mineral geochemistry, and isotope systematics to seek to improve our ability to forecast the eruptive frequency and style of active volcanoes, an aspect often lacking in current volcano monitoring efforts. 3. Studies of Unusual Seismicity and Long Period Events at the Glacier Overlain Katla Volcano, Iceland
Abstract : Earthquake catalogues are usually dominated by diffusive behaviour consistent with the Omori law of aftershocks. This is investigated in terms of waiting times, i.e. the time between successive events in a time-sorted earthquake catalogue. READ MORE

4. Location and Relocation of Seismic Sources
Abstract : This dissertation is a comprehensive summary of four papers on the development and application of new strategies for locating tremor and relocating events in earthquake catalogs. In the first paper, two new strategies for relocating events in a catalog are introduced. READ MORE

5. Event stratigraphy for the Last Glacial-Holocene transition in eastern middle Sweden
Abstract : This thesis outlines an event stratigraphy for the Last Glacial-Holocene transition in eastern middle Sweden. Events are short-lived occurrences that have left traces in the geological record and which, therefore, may be used for correlation and inter-regional comparisons. READ MORE
