  1. 21. Non-Coherent Photon Upconversion on Dye-Sensitized Nanostructured ZrO2 Films for Efficient Solar Light Harvesting

    Author : Jonas Sandby Lissau; Ana Morandeira; James M. Gardner; Leif Hammarström; Josef Michl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photon upconversion; triplet-triplet annihilation; DSSC; dye-sensitized; delayed fluorescence; photophysics; solar energy conversion; nanostructured surface; energy migration; Kemi med inriktning mot kemisk fysik; Chemistry with specialization in Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Photon upconversion by sensitized triplet–triplet annihilation (UC-STTA) is a photophysical process that facilitates the conversion of two low-energy photons into a single high-energy photon. A low-energy photon is absorbed by a sensitizer molecule that produces a triplet excited state which is transferred to an emitter molecule. READ MORE

  2. 22. Stepping into Catalysis : Kinetic and Mechanistic Investigations of Photo- and Electrocatalytic Hydrogen Production with Natural and Synthetic Molecular Catalysts

    Author : Daniel Streich; Leif Hammarström; Reiner Lomoth; Clifford Kubiak; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Artificial photosynthesis; photocatalysis; electrocatalysis; hydrogen production; proton reduction; hydrogenase; iron complex; active site model; catalytic mechanism; transient absorption; spectroscopy; electrochemistry; cyclic voltammetry; Kemi med inriktning mot kemisk fysik; Chemistry with specialization in Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : In light of its rapidly growing energy demand, human society has an urgent need to become much more strongly reliant on renewable and sustainable energy carriers. Molecular hydrogen made from water with solar energy could provide an ideal case. READ MORE

  3. 23. Exploring Dye-Sensitized Mesoporous NiO Photocathodes : from Mechanism to Applications

    Author : Lei Tian; Haining Tian; Leif Hammarström; Fabrice Odobel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NiO; p-type; dye-sensitized solar cells; solid state; charge separation; charge recombination; charge diffusion; transport time; surface states; electron conductor; dye regeneration; Kemi med inriktning mot kemisk fysik; Chemistry with specialization in Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : Increasing attention has been paid on solar energy conversion since the abundant solar energy possesses the potential to solve the problems on energy crisis and climate change. Dye-sensitized mesoporous NiO film was developed as one of the attractive photocathodes to fabricate p-type dye-sensitized solar cells (p-DSCs) and dye-sensitized photoelectrosynthetic cells (p-DSPECs) for electricity and chemical fuels generation, respectively. 4. 24. Effects of Ubiquinone-10 on the Stability and Mechanical Properties of Lipid Membranes

    Author : Emma K. Eriksson; Katarina Edwards; Victor Agmo Hernández; Emma Sparr; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ubiquinone-10; lipid bilayers; membrane stabilizer; liposome permeability; osmotic shock; cuvettes; solanesol; Chemistry with specialization in Physical Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Ubiquinones are a group of fat-soluble molecules present in many biological membranes. The most abundant version in humans, ubiquinone-10 (Q10), plays an important role in the mitochondrial respiration chain and also functions as a powerful antioxidant. Accumulating evidence suggests that Q10 also could have other functions in the membrane. READ MORE

  5. 25. Development and Evaluation of Lipodisks Intended for Use as Biomimetic Membranes and Drug Carriers

    Author : Malin Morin Zetterberg; Katarina Edwards; Jonas Bergquist; Ana Maria Carmona-Ribeiro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; model membranes; drug delivery; drug partitioning; antimicrobial peptides; nanocarriers; cryo-TEM; polymer-stabilized bilayer disks; Chemistry with specialization in Physical Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Polyethylene glycol-stabilized lipodisks have emerged as a novel type of lipid-based nanoparticles with high potential as both drug carriers and biomimetic membranes. In this thesis we assess both of these applications, and show how the properties of the lipodisks can be further developed and optimized. READ MORE
