  1. 1. Micromechanical Modelling of Wood and Fibre Properties

    Author : Kent Persson; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; Microfibril angle; Density; Hygroexpansion; Stiffness; Simulation; Wood; Fibre; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; Material technology; Materiallära; materialteknik;

    Abstract : Wood is a material with mechanical properties that vary markedly, both within a tree and among trees. Moisture changes lead to shrinkage or swelling and modify the mechanical properties. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling of Wood Properties by a Micromechanical Approach

    Author : Kent Persson; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  3. 3. Timber/Glass Adhesive Bonds for Structural Applications

    Author : Louise Blyberg; Erik Serrano; Kent Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Timber with its natural appearance and glass with its transparency may be appealing material for architects and users of modern buildings. Glass is a brittle material, but it is about six times stiffer than timber. Combined appropriately, the materials could form different types of composite products, e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour

    Author : Sara Florisson; Sigurdur Ormarsson; Johan Vessby; Kent Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; analytical method; calibration; controlled climate; creep; distortion; experimental methodology; FEM; fibre orientation; mechano-sorption; moisture transport; natural climate; Norway spruce; numerical model; three-dimensional; timber beam; validation; wood; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. 5. 5. Phase transformation and surface chemistry of secondary iron minerals formed from acid mine drainage

    Author : Jörgen Jönsson; Lars Lövgren; Per Persson; Staffan Sjöberg; Douglas B Kent; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; schwertmannite; goethite; lepidocrocite; acid mine drainage; sulphate; natural organic matter; mineral surface; infrared spectroscopy; EXAFS; XRD; ternary surface complex; copper II ; cadmium II ; lead II ; zinc II ; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : The mining of sulphidic ore to extract metals such as zinc and copper produces huge quantities of waste material. The weathering and oxidation of the waste produces what is commonly known as Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), a dilute sulphuric acid rich in Fe(II) and heavy metals. READ MORE
