  1. 16. Spatial Spread of Organisms : Modeling ecological and epidemiological processes

    Author : Tom Lindström; Uno Wennergren; Colleen Webb; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Spatial kernel; Spatially explicit modeling; Disease transmission; Animal movements; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the spread of organisms in both ecological and epidemiological contexts. In most of the studies presented, displacement is modeled with a spatial kernel function, which is characterized by scale and shape. These are measured by the net squared displacement (or kernel variance) and kurtosis, respectively. READ MORE

  2. 17. Towards Better Representation Learning in the Absence of Sufficient Supervision

    Author : Arman Rahbar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Online learning; Neural network; Decision tree; Representation learning; Kernel embedding; Supervision; Knowledge transfer; Feature acquisition;

    Abstract : We focus on the problem of learning representations from data in the situation where we do not have access to sufficient supervision such as labels or feature values. This situation can be present in many real-world machine learning tasks. We approach this problem from different perspectives summarized as follows. READ MORE

  3. 18. Nonparametric Functional Estimation under Order Restrictions

    Author : Dragi Anevski; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; monotonicity; convexity; deconvolution; kernel smoothing; NPMLE; long range dependence; greatest convex minorant; mixing; Density estimation; limit distribution.; regression; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three papers (Papers A-C) on problems in nonparametric functional estimation, in particular density and regression function estimation and deconvolution, under order assumptions. Pointwise limit distribution results are stated for the obtained estimators, which include isotonic regression estimates, nonparametric maximum likelihood estimates of monotone densities, estimates of convex regression and density functions and deconvolution estimates. 4. 19. Glycaemic Response in Relation to Gastric Emptying and Satiety in Health and Disease

    Author : Joanna Hlebowicz; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Keywords : Diabetes; Cinnamon; Satiety; Healthy subjects; Gastroparesis; Blood Glucose; Ultrasound; Gastric emptying; Whole-kernel; Dietary fibre; Beta-glucan; Wheat; Oat;

    Abstract : Dietary fibre and whole grains are recommended to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes. Low glycaemic index foods that are rich in fibre are recommended to control blood glucose levels. Gastric emptying, together with other factors, regulate the postprandial blood glucose response. 5. 20. Regularity and boundary behavior of solutions to complex Monge–Ampère equations

    Author : Björn Ivarsson; Zbigniew Blocki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Complex Monge--Ampère operator; interior regularity; plurisubharmonic function; blow-up rate of solutions; bounded plurisubharmonic exhaustion function; globally Lipschitz; strongly pseudoconvex domain; hyperconvex domain; Bergman kernel; MATEMATIK; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : In the theory of holomorphic functions of one complex variable it is often useful to study subharmonic functions. The subharmonic can be described using the Laplace operator. When one studies holomorphic functions of several complex variables one should study the plurisubharmonic functions instead. READ MORE
