16. Spatial Spread of Organisms : Modeling ecological and epidemiological processes
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the spread of organisms in both ecological and epidemiological contexts. In most of the studies presented, displacement is modeled with a spatial kernel function, which is characterized by scale and shape. These are measured by the net squared displacement (or kernel variance) and kurtosis, respectively. READ MORE

17. Towards Better Representation Learning in the Absence of Sufficient Supervision
Abstract : We focus on the problem of learning representations from data in the situation where we do not have access to sufficient supervision such as labels or feature values. This situation can be present in many real-world machine learning tasks. We approach this problem from different perspectives summarized as follows. READ MORE

18. Nonparametric Functional Estimation under Order Restrictions
Abstract : This thesis consists of three papers (Papers A-C) on problems in nonparametric functional estimation, in particular density and regression function estimation and deconvolution, under order assumptions. Pointwise limit distribution results are stated for the obtained estimators, which include isotonic regression estimates, nonparametric maximum likelihood estimates of monotone densities, estimates of convex regression and density functions and deconvolution estimates. 19. Glycaemic Response in Relation to Gastric Emptying and Satiety in Health and Disease
Abstract : Dietary fibre and whole grains are recommended to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes. Low glycaemic index foods that are rich in fibre are recommended to control blood glucose levels. Gastric emptying, together with other factors, regulate the postprandial blood glucose response. 20. Regularity and boundary behavior of solutions to complex Monge–Ampère equations
Abstract : In the theory of holomorphic functions of one complex variable it is often useful to study subharmonic functions. The subharmonic can be described using the Laplace operator. When one studies holomorphic functions of several complex variables one should study the plurisubharmonic functions instead. READ MORE
