  1. 1. Palladium(II)-Catalyzed Addition Reactions : Synthesis of Aryl Amidines and Aryl Ketones

    Author : Jonas Rydfjord; Mats Larhed; Adriaan Minnaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Palladium; Catalysis; Palladium II catalysis; Synthesis; Addition Reactions; Cyanamide; Amidine; Aryl Amidine; Nitrile; Ketone; Aryl Ketone; Carbopalladation; Continuous-flow; Continuous flow; Microwave heating; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : Palladium-catalyzed reactions have become one of the most important tools in modern organic chemistry due to its ability to catalyze the formation of new carbon-carbon bonds.The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to develop new palladium(II)-catalyzed addition reactions. 2. 2. Palladium(II)-Catalysed Heck and Addition Reactions : Exploring Decarboxylative and Desulfitative Processes

    Author : Bobo Skillinghaug; Mats Larhed; Antonio de la Hoz Ayuso; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Palladium; catalysis; palladium II catalysis; synthesis; Heck; carboxylic acid; sulfinic acid; sodium sulfinate; nitrile; styrene; ketone; aryl ketone; electrospray ionization mass spectrometry; density functional theory; microwave heating; continuous flow; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Palladium complexes have the ability to catalyse cross-coupling of two organic moieties through the formation of transient metal-carbon bonds, thus bringing them closer to each other to facilitate the formation of a new bond. Palladium-catalysed coupling reactions are one of the most important carbon-carbon forming reactions available to organic chemists and many of these reactions rely on the reactivity of aryl-palladium complexes. 3. 3. Bioreduction of Carbonyl Compounds to Chiral Alcohols by Whole Yeast Cells: Process Optimisation, Strain Design and Non-Conventional Yeast Screening

    Author : Michael Katz; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bicyclic diketone; carbonyl; yeast; candida; cerevisiae; reductase; ketone; reduction; whole cell; YMR226c; YDR368w; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; mykologi; virologi; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi;

    Abstract : Chiral building blocks are needed for the production of drugs and fine chemicals, which requires the use of several synthetic routes to produce a specific enantiomer of interest. One promising approach to introduce chirality into molecules is the stereo-selective whole cell bioreduction of carbonyl compounds or ketones to the corresponding chiral alcohols. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hydrogenation, Transfer Hydrogenation and Hydrogen Transfer Reactions Catalyzed by Iridium Complexes

    Author : Xu Quan; Pher Andersson; Jonathan Williams; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Iridium catalyst; carbene; N; P - ligand; asymmetric hydrogenation; transfer hydrogenation; hydrogen transfer reaction; alkylation; olefin; ketone; amide; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The work described in this thesis is focused on the development of new bidentate iridium complexes and their applications in the asymmetric reduction of olefins, ketones and imines. Three new types of iridium complexes were synthesized, which included pyridine derived chiral N,P-iridium complexes, achiral NHC complexes and chiral NHC-phosphine complexes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Glucose and ketone body metabolism : with emphasis on ketotic hypoglycemia

    Author : Jenny Alkén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Ketone bodies; glucose production; SCOT deficiency; hypoglycemia;

    Abstract : Idiopathic ketotic hypoglycemia is characterized by hypoglycemia and elevated levels of ketone bodies (beta-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate) during fasting. The affected children are otherwise healthy and they usually present with the condition before 5 years of age. READ MORE
