1. Cytogenetic studies of normal kidney tissue and renal cell carcinoma
Abstract : In the present thesis normal kidney tissue and renal cell carcinoma (RCC) were studied by cytogenetic and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) methods to investigate chromosomal aberrations. In the first study, 4 samples of nonneoplastic kidney tissue were cultured for cytogenetic analysis and trisomy 7 was found in all cases in 3-15% of the cells. READ MORE

2. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies on cisplatin in mice and men
Abstract : Methodological tools for studies of the cytostatic agen cisplatin (CDDP) were explored and applied to elucidate various aspects of pharmacokinetics, drug distribution, chemomodulation and pharmacodynamics. An immunohistochemical assay for analysis of CDDP-DNA adducts, i.e. READ MORE

3. Improving radioimmunotargeting of tumors : the impact of extracorporeal immunoadsorption and preload in rats
Abstract : In radioimmunotherapy of tumors, uptake of the monoclonal antibody (MAb) used is often too low in relation to its uptake in normal tissues. The purpose of these studies was to improve experimental tumor radioimmunotargeting with (a) extracorporeal immunoadsorption (ECIA), where excess of radiolabeled MAbs circulating in blood is removed, (b) or by preload with unlabeled MAb prior to injection of radiolabeled MAb, (c) or by a combination of these. 4. Body Protein and its Change in Patients During Anti-Tumor Treatment
Abstract : The purpose of this study was to investigate how total body protein and its fraction of body weight (body protein fraction) change in cancer patients during different anti-tumor treatments, and to see if these changes have any clinical significance in the form of prognostic value or correlation with disease course and tumor response. In 84 patients, 28 with lung cancer, 24 with gastrointestinal tumors, 30 with breast cancer, 1 with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and 1 with kidney cancer, the total amount of body nitrogen was measured using an in vivo prompt gamma neutron activation technique. 5. Pancreas Transplantation: Development of Successful Preclinical Models
Abstract : Pancreas transplantation is today a technically successful procedure and provides an alternative to insulin injections for the treatment of Type I diabetes mellitus. This thesis was undertaken while pancreas transplantation was developing and while several fundamental questions were being asked about both endocrine and exocrine drainage of the transplanted pancreas as well as how best to diagnose and prevent rejection.
