  1. 1. Norbornadienes for Solar Thermal Energy Storage and New Applications

    Author : Ambra Dreos; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal energy storage; molecular logic; Solar energy; molecular switch- es; energy conversion; quadricyclane; molecular keypad locks; norbornadiene;

    Abstract : The energy demand worldwide is steadily increasing, therefore it is fundamental to efficiently utilise renewable energy resources. Energy storage technologies are partic- ularly relevant in order to be able to exploit renewable energy resources such as solar energy, since these are typically intermittent and not evenly distributed. 2. 2. Simplified models for emission formation in diesel engines during transient operation

    Author : Anders Westlund; Hans-Erik Ångström; Martti Larmi; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diesel engine; emission modeling; transient operation; NOx; Soot; Mechanical energy engineering; Mekanisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is the result of the KTH CICERO project “Dynamic Engine Performance” in which the main objective was to develop simple models foremission formation. The demand for such models is increasing, mainly due to the tightening emission legislation for diesel engines which has lead to more complex engines and thereby more laborious development and calibration processes. Abstract : The results presented in this thesis can be divided into four areas of investigation: Investigation of the effect of new volume-crank angle relations on engine emissions, power and efficiency; investigation of nitrogen oxides effect on auto ignition and knock in SI engines; investigation of premixed SI and HCCI engine operation with the alternative fuels hydrogen and reformed methanol gas (RMG); software development of a detailed chemical kinetics zonal engine model. Model development of the in-house two-zone chemical kinetic code focused on expansion of the Jacobian matrix to allow simulations of variable in-cylinder charge. READ MORE
