1. Pyrolysis profiles and global kinetics of tropical biomass : coconut and cashew nut shells
Abstract : Biomass has been recognised as renewable and environmentally friendly source of energy since decades. Tropical biomasses which are available in large quantities as residues in Latin America, Africa and Asia, have high energy potential for exploitation through thermochemical conversion process, as pyrolysis, gasification or combustion. 2. Development of an efficient solver for detailed kinetics in reactive flows
Abstract : The use of chemical kinetic mechanisms in CAE tools for reactive flow simulations is of high importance for studying and predicting pollutant formation. However, usage of complex reaction schemes is accompanied by high computational cost in both 1D and 3-D CFD frameworks. READ MORE

3. Accelerator-driven systems : safety and kinetics
Abstract : The accelerator-driven system (ADS) is recognized as a promising system for the purpose of nuclear waste transmutation and minimization of spent fuel radiotoxicity. The primary cause for this derives from its accelerator-driven, sub-critical operating state, which introduces beneficial safety-related features allowing for application of cores employing fuel systems containing pure transuranics or minor actinides, thereby offering increased incineration rate of waste products and minimal deployment of advanced (and expensive) partitioning and transmutation technologies. 4. Studies of the anomeric center : mechanism and synthesis
Abstract : This thesis is based on three publications and one appendix and is divided into two parts. The first part is a mechanistic study of the anomerization reaction of both aldo and keto glycosides and the second part is a synthetic study of a unusual type of glycosidic linker found in the lipopolysaccharide core Proteus Mirabilis 0270. 5. Wiring Components of the Respiratory Chain : Modulation of the Respiratory Chain in Yeast and Bacteria
Abstract : The enzyme complexes of the respiratory chain are organized in supramolecular assemblies, so-called respiratory supercomplexes. In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, these supercomplexes consist of two copies of complex III (bc1 complex) and one or two copies of complex IV (cytochrome c oxidase, CytcO). READ MORE
