  1. 1. Predicting the sound field from aeroacoustic sources on moving vehicles : Towards an improved urban environment

    Author : Nicolas Pignier; Ciarán O'Reilly; Susann Boij; Michael Carley; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pass-by simulations; aeroacoustic sources; urban sound propagation; direct numerical beamforming; linear programming deconvolution; Kirchhoff approximation; moving sources; detached-eddy simulation; Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings; vehicle design; förbifartssimuleringar; aeroakustiska källor; urban ljudutbredning; direkt numerisk lobformning; avfaltning med hjälp av linjärprogrammering; Kirchhoffs approximation; rörliga källor; detached-eddy simulation; Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings; fordonsdesign; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : In a society where environmental noise is becoming a major health and economical concern, sound emissions are an increasingly critical design factor for vehicle manufacturers. With about a quarter of the European population living close to roads with heavy traffic, traffic noise in urban landscapes has to be addressed first. READ MORE

    Abstract : Transportation is the main source of environmental noise in Europe, with an estimated 125 million people affected by excessive noise levels from road traffic, causing a burden of noise related diseases and having a substantial economic impact on society. In order to reduce exposure to high levels of traffic noise, two approaches are the topic of extensive research: preventing sound from propagating from roads and railways using for example noise barriers, and reducing the sources of noise themselves. 3. 3. Finite Element Methods for Thin Structures with Applications in Solid Mechanics

    Author : Karl Larsson; Mats G Larson; Garth N Wells; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; a priori error estimation; finite element method; discontinuous Galerkin; corotation; Kirchhoff-Love plate; curved beam; biharmonic equation; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : Thin and slender structures are widely occurring both in nature and in human creations. Clever geometries of thin structures can produce strong constructions while requiring a minimal amount of material. READ MORE

  4. 4. Linear and Non-Linear Analysis of Plates and Shells by Use of Morley Finite Elements

    Author : Ulrika Wendt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; explicit dynamic formulation; adaptive methods; Shells Morley element; plates; Germain-Kirchhoff plate theory; finite element method; mixed plate formulation;

    Abstract : The thesis deals with plate bending analysis and shell analysis in static linear and dynamic non-linear situations. The thesis contains two parts. In common for them is the use of the Germain-Kirchhoff plate theory, constant strain, constant curvature triangular plate elements and adaptive improvement of original solution. READ MORE

  5. 5. Appearance characterisation of textured polymeric surfaces

    Author : Ingrid Arino; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; appearance; reflectance; polymer; colour; surface texture; gloss;

    Abstract : Appearance demands for industrial products are generally increasing since they are closely related to the overall quality impression. Consequently, there is a need to define appearance through its main descriptors, which are gloss, colour and surface texture, as well as the relations between them. READ MORE
