11. Appearance characterisation of textured polymeric surfaces
Abstract : Appearance demands for industrial products are generally increasing since they are closely related to the overall quality impression. Consequently, there is a need to define appearance through its main descriptors, which are gloss, colour and surface texture, as well as the relations between them. READ MORE

12. Designs and simulations of silicon-based microphotonic devices
Abstract : The characteristics of a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) rib waveguide, including the bending loss of a multimode bent waveguide and the birefringence of a rib waveguide, are analyzed by using a finite-difference method (FDM). Based on a detailed analysis for a multimode bent waveguide, an appropriately designed multimode bent waveguide for reducing effectively the bending loss of the fundamental mode is realized. 13. Model Adaptivity in Elasticity
Abstract : We consider model adaptivity in elasticity for dimensionally reduced forms, and shall treat different conceptual approaches. The basic idea, however, is to adaptively refine, not only the computational mesh, but also the underlying mathematical formulation. READ MORE

14. A Study of Mach 0.75 Jets and Their Radiated Sound Using Large-Eddy Simulation
Abstract : Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) of a compressible nozzle/jet configuration have been carried out. Two jets were simulated, an isothermal jet and a jet with a higher temperature than the surrounding air. The Mach number was in both cases 0.75 and the jet Reynolds number was 50,000. READ MORE

15. Hygro-Elastic Deformation of High Pressure Laminates. A Macroscopic Analysis. Theoretical Modelling and Measurements
Abstract : Deformation due to environmental changes in moisture arises in many engineering problems of practical interest. The purpose of this work is to develop a theoretical model for the determination of moisture induced deformations in thin plates made of High Pressure Laminates. READ MORE
