  1. 1. Simulation of diffusional processes in alloys : techniques and applications

    Author : Henrik Strandlund; John Ågren; John Morral; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diffusion; Kirkendall effect; Phase transformations; Random walk; Solute drag; Interfacial mobility; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns computer simulation of diffusional processes in alloys. The main focus is on the development of simulation techniques for diffusion in single-phase domains, but also diffusion controlled phase-transformations and interfacial processes are discussed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Liquid phase sintering of W-Ni-Fe composites : liquid penetration, agglomerate separation and tungsten particle growth

    Author : Anders Eliasson; Hasse Fredriksson; Thomas Gomez-Acebo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Liquid phase sintering; heavy metal; particle composites; tungsten; penetration; agglomerate separation; particle interaction; parabolic flight; sounding rockets; microgravity; Kirkendall effect; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The initial stage of liquid phase sintering, involving liquid penetration, agglomerate separation, particle spreading and growth has been investigated in experiments using tungsten heavy alloys. The particle composites used were produced by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) of pure powder mixtures of W-Ni-Fe-(Co). READ MORE

  3. 3. Single Copper Nanoparticle Oxidation

    Author : Sara Nilsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dark-field scattering spectroscopy; single particle; plasmonic nanospectroscopy; plasmonic sensing; transmission electron microscopy; oxidation; nanoscale Kirkendall effect;

    Abstract : Cu nanoparticles are commonly used in microelectronic devices and as catalysts in, for example, methanol synthesis and methanol steam reforming reactions. However, Cu nanoparticles are prone to oxidation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Nanostructuring and Age Hardening in TiSCN, ZrAlN, and TiAlN Thin Films

    Author : Lars Johnson; Lars Hultman; Axel Flink; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : thin films; age hardening; spinodal decomposition; TiSiCN; ZrAlN; TiAlN; Transmission electron microscopy; Atom probe tomography; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This thesis explores nanostructuring in TiSiCN, ZrAlN, and TiAlN thin films deposited by cathodic arc evaporation onto cemented carbide substrates, with intended applications for cutting tools. The three systems were found to exhibit age hardening upon annealing, by different mechanisms, into the superhard regime (≥30 GPa), as determined by a combination of electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, atom probe tomography, erda, and nanoindentation tech- niques. 5. 5. Aluminide Diffusion Coatings for Ni Based Superalloys. Coating and Oxide Microstructure

    Author : Johan Angenete; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microstructure; aluminide diffusion coatings; nickel based superalloys; SEM; TEM; high temperature oxidation;

    Abstract : This thesis reports on investigations of high temperature oxidation resistant aluminide diffusion coatings for Ni based superalloys. Such coatings basically consist of a .BETA.-NiAl layer at the surface of the . READ MORE
