1. Policy, Interest and Power : Studies in Strategies of Research Utilization
Abstract : This dissertation about the utilization of applied social science is based on studies of research use in three different policy sectors - the social service, the building, and the working life sectors. In these studies some characteristics of the different policy sectors, like the distribution and exercise of power and control, was found to play a fundamental role in forming the patterns of research utilization of the organizations in the field and the ways organizations act in relation to their environments. 2. Kinematics and fixation of total knee arthroplasties : a clinical, radiographic, scintimetric, and roentgen stereophotogrammetric evaluation
Abstract : Aseptic loosening of the tibial component is an important cause of failure after total knee arthroplasty. Bone destruction often claimed to be caused by the cement makes the revision difficult. In order to treat younger patients, uncemented fixation has been introduced, but the etiology to loosening is multifactorial and only partly known. READ MORE

3. A ΔJ approach for nonlinear fatigue crack propagation : Experimental and numerical investigation of a ductile superalloy
Abstract : This dissertation is a product of an academic-industrial collaboration between the Division of Solid Mechanics at Linköping University and Siemens Energy AB. The focus is on enhancing the design optimisation procedures for high-temperature components in industrial gas turbines (IGT). READ MORE

4. Robust optimisation of structures : Evaluation and incorporation of variations in simulation based design
Abstract : This thesis concerns the robustness of structures considering various uncertainties. The overall objective is to evaluate and develop simulation based design methods in order to find solutions that are optimal both in the sense of handling typical load cases and minimising the variability of the response, i.e. robust optimal designs. 5. Polymorphism in pattern recognition receptor genes in pigs
Abstract : The mammalian immune defense consists of two systems, which are interconnected and co-operate to provide host defense. The innate immune system is always active and detects and responds to non-self without delay. The adaptive immune system has a lag phase, but is more specific and has got a memory. READ MORE
