  1. 1. Cytokine induced airway hyperreactivity characterized in an in-vitro model of asthma

    Author : Yaping Zhang; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; MAPK; TNF-alpha; 5-HT; Respiratory system; Andningsorganen; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; interleukin-1beta; hyperresponsiveness; endothelin-1; airway; bradykinin; toxikologi; farmaci;

    Abstract : Asthma is a chronic disorder of the lower airways, characterized by inflammation and hyperreactivity. Pro-inflammatory cytokines like tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) are known to play important roles in the pathogenesis, but our knowledge how these cytokines contribute to the development of airway hyperreactivity is limited. 2. 2. Altered expression of contractile endothelin receptors in the vascular bed

    Author : Mikael Adner; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; upregulation; transcriptional regulation; smooth muscle cells; plasticity; organ culture; Endothelin; receptor; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : This thesis aims at characterizing the endothelin (ET) receptors in different vascular beds of man and rat. The ET-A receptor was shown to be the only contractile ET receptor present in all vascular regions, with the exception of the rat mesenteric vein where a weak ET-B receptor-mediated contraction was seen. 3. 3. Effects of Inflammatory Mediators on Pulmonary Airways

    Author : Ofir Bachar; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electric ?eld stimulation; bradykinin; airway; tumor necrosis factor a; Respiratory system; nitric oxide; Andningsorganen; Toll-like receptor; prostaglandin E2; neurotrophin; allergy;

    Abstract : Chronic inflammation is together with excessive contraction of the airways key features of asthma. The aims of the thesis were to analyze the effect of inflammatory mediators on airway smooth muscle, using an in vitro model of cultured murine airways. READ MORE

  4. 4. New Mediators and Novel Mechanisms in Allergic Airway Inflammation

    Author : Malin Bryborn; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allergic airway inflammation; airway hyperreactivity; inflammatory mediators; S100A7; IL-4; proteomics; genetic variation; Charcot-Leyden crystal protein;

    Abstract : Hyperresponsiveness and inflammation are major pathophysiological features of both allergic rhinitis and asthma. The mechanisms behind these are not fully understood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Role of Toll-like receptors in airway inflammation

    Author : Anne Månsson; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lymphocytes; peripheral blood; allergic rhinitis; tonsils; eosinophils; specific allergen immunotherapy;

    Abstract : Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are germline-encoded pathogen-recognition receptors that detect different microbial structures and activate the immune system. The human TLR family presently comprises ten members (TLR1-TLR10), each with distinct properties. READ MORE
