    Abstract : Adenovirus serotype 5 (Ad5) is widely used as an oncolytic agent for cancer therapy. However, its infectivity is highly dependent on the expression level of coxsackievirus-adenovirus receptor (CAR) on the surface of tumor cells. READ MORE

  2. 2. Rift Valley fever : consequences of virus-host interactions

    Author : Maria Baudin; Magnus Evander; Clas Ahlm; Göran Bucht; Tomas Bergström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rift Valley fever; Rift Valley fever virus; viral haemorrhagic fever; miscarriage; entry; charge; carbohydrates; high-throughput screening; antiviral; cell-based assay; medicinsk virologi; Medical Virology;

    Abstract : Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) is a mosquito-borne virus which has the ability to infect a large variety of animals including humans in Africa and Arabian Peninsula. The abortion rate among these animals are close to 100%, and young animals develop severe disease which often are lethal. READ MORE

  3. 3. Implications of Local Puumala Hantavirus Genetics and Epidemiology for Diagnostics and Vaccine Development

    Author : Patrik Johansson; Fredrik Elgh; Göran Bucht; Detlev Krüger; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Puumala viruses, a member of the Hantavirus genus in the Bunyaviridae family, are enveloped by a lipid bilayer and possesses a tripartite single stranded RNA genome with negative polarity. The hantaviruses encode four proteins: a nucleocapsid protein (N), two membrane spanning glycoproteins (GN and GC) and a RNA dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp). READ MORE

  4. 4. Retroviral long Terminal Repeats; Structure, Detection and Phylogeny

    Author : Farid Benachenhou; Jonas Blomberg; Göran Sperber; Aris Katzourakis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Retrovirus; long terminal repeats; hidden Markov models; phylogeny; alignment; conserved motif; stem-loop; Clinical virology; Klinisk virologi; Klinisk virologi; Clinical Virology;

    Abstract : Long terminal repeats (LTRs) are non-coding repeats flanking the protein-coding genes of LTR retrotransposons. The variability of LTRs poses a challenge in studying them. Hidden Markov models (HMMs), probabilistic models widely used in pattern recognition, are useful in dealing with this variability. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular characterization of the hepatitis C virus core protein

    Author : Priya Devi; Anders Bergqvist; Björn Olsen; Tanel Punga; Gerald McInerney; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is an RNA virus that causes chronic infection, which can lead to hepatocellular carcinomas in humans. Besides liver diseases, the chronic HCV infection causes a broad spectrum of extrahepatic complications such as lymphoproliferative, metabolic and autoimmune disorders. READ MORE
