  1. 1. Influence of surface roughness on rolling contact fatigue considering thermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication effects : Due to Corona it is not possible to attend this defense in person, instead attend via this link: https://play.kth.se/media/0_omfsppe6

    Author : Carl-Magnus Everitt; Bo Alfredsson; Andreas Almqvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Contact mechanics; Rolling contact fatigue; Pitting; Spalling; Slip; Thermal elastohydrodynamic.; Kontaktmekanik; Rullande kontaktutmattning; Pitting; Glidning; Termisk elastohydrodynamik.; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Rolling contacts are utilized in many technical applications, both in bearings and in the contacts between gear teeth. These components are subjected to high loads in many of their applications. The high loads causes very high contact pressures which may cause rolling contact fatigue, often denoted as pitting or spalling. READ MORE

  2. 2. Discrete element modelling of the mechanical behaviour of lithium-ion battery electrode layers

    Author : Axel Lundkvist; Per-Lennart Larsson; Pär Jonsén; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lithium-ion batteries; mechanical characterisation; simulations; contact mechanics; discrete element method; Litiumjonbatterier; mekanisk karakterisering; simuleringar; kontaktmekanik; diskret elementmetod; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics; Solid Mechanics; Hållfasthetslära;

    Abstract : Since their introduction in the late 20th century, lithium-ion batteries have become the leading battery technology for portable devices and electric vehicles due to their high energy density and rechargeability. However, the increasing demand for a longer battery life span is hindered by the fading of the battery’s charge capacity over prolonged use. READ MORE

  3. 3. Initiation of rolling contact fatigue from asperities in elastohydrodynamic lubricated contacts

    Author : Carl-Magnus Everitt; Bo Alfredsson; Stefan Björklund; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Spalling; Pitting; Slip; Elastohydrodynamic; Thermal elastohydrodynamic; Fatigue; Contact mechanics.; Pitting; Glidning; Elastohydrodynamik; Termisk elastohydrodynamik; Utmattning; Kontaktmekanik.; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Rolling contacts are utilized in many technical applications, both in bearings and in the contact between gear teeth. These components are often highly loaded, which makes them susceptible to suffer from rolling contact fatigue. This work focuses on the rolling contact fatigue mechanism of pitting. READ MORE

  4. 4. Adaptive Finite Element Methods for Fluid Structure Interaction Problems with Applications to Human Phonation

    Author : Niyazi Cem Degirmenci; Johan Hoffman; Johan Jansson; David Nordsletten; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fluid Structure Interaction; Finite Element Method; Contact Modeling; Acoustic Coupling; High Performance Computing; Tillämpad matematik och beräkningsmatematik; Applied and Computational Mathematics;

    Abstract : This work presents a unified framework for numerical solution of Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) and acoustics problems with focus on human phonation. The Finite Element Method is employed for numerical investigation of partial differential equations that model conservation of momentum and mass. READ MORE
