6. Extended impregnation kraft cooking of softwood : Effects on reject, yield, pulping uniformity, and physical properties
Abstract : Converting wood into paper is a complex process involving many different stages, one of which is pulping. Pulping involves liberating the wood fibres from each other, which can be done either chemically or mechanically. READ MORE

7. Interfacing spectrophotometry to process liquors applications to kraft pulping
Abstract : This thesis summarizes the outcome of work performed withthe objective to contribute to the knowledge and development ofthe kraft cooking process using spectrophotometricinterfaces. In kraft cooking, it is desirable to maximize the removal oflignin in the cook without loss of pulp strength. 8. On the Interrelation Between Kraft Cooking Conditions and Pulp Composition
Abstract : In the early 1990’s, a lot of work was focused on extending the kraft cook to a low lignin content (low kappa number). The driving force was the need to further reduce the environmental impact of the bleaching, as less delignification work would be needed there. READ MORE

9. Mild Steam Explosion of Wood and Forest Residues in the Perspective of a Materials Biorefinery
Abstract : The main objective of this work was to explore the prospects of using mild steam explosion as a pretreatment step in a forest based material biorefinery. During the steam explosion saturated steam is applied to the biomass at elevated pressure leading to an autohydrolysis of the lignocellulosic tissue, which is followed by a rapid pressure discharge, disintegrating and opening up the structure. 10. Pre-Extraction of Wood Components Mild hydrothermal methods for a future materials biorefinery
Abstract : Today there is an increasing urgency in discovering new, and more sustainable, replacements for fossil-based materials and chemicals. The biorefinery concept is promising in this context in that it relies on transforming biomass into a spectrum of commercial products. Wood is the primary bioresource in Scandinavia. READ MORE
