  1. 1. Synthesis of Polyhydroxylated Surfactants : Comparison of Surfactant Stereoisomers and Investigation of Haemolytic Activity

    Author : Kristina Neimert-Andersson; Peter Somfai; Krister Holmberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polyhydroxy surfactants; Sugar surfactants; Dihydroxylation; Metathesis; Langmuir monolayers; Chiral discrimination; Haemolysis; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : I den här avhandlingen har vi studerat hur man kan göra nya tensider. En tensid är en speciell molekyl som har förmågan att lösa sig i både vatten och olja. Man kan göra följande experiment hemma: Fyll en glasburk till hälften med vatten och tillsätt en droppe matolja. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fundamental Characterization and Technical Aspects of a Chelating Surfactant

    Author : Ida Svanedal; Håkan Edlund; Magnus Norgren; Krister Holmberg; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chelating surfactant; DTPA based surfactant; pH-responsive; characterization; surface tension; NMR diffusometry; conditional stability constants; interaction parameter; ion flotation;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study was to investigate the fundamental characteristics of a chelating surfactant in terms of solution behaviour, chelation of divalent metal ions, and interaction in mixtures with different foaming agents and divalent metal ion, as well as examining its prospects in some practical applications. Chelating surfactants are functional molecules, with both surface active and chelating properties, which are water soluble and therefore suitable for chelation in many aqueous environments. 3. 3. Studies of surfactant behaviour and model surfaces relevant to flotation deinking

    Author : Katarina Theander; Mark Rutland; Krister Holmberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : The objective of this work was to investigate the behaviour of some model surfactants used in the deinking process, namely, sodium oleate and two ethoxylated nonionic surfactants (C12E6 and C14E6) as well as to investigate the suitability of various model substrates for mimicking interactions in technical systems. The influence of the adsorption to the air water interface has been measured by means of equilibrium and dynamic surface tension measurements, as well as foaming experiments. READ MORE

    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyaluronan; Phospholipid; Lubricin; Cartilage Oligomeric Matrix Protein; COMP; Adsorption; Surface Force; Friction; Biolubrication; Boundary Lubrication; Load Bearing Capacity; Synergistic Effects; DLS; QCM-D; AFM.; Hyaluronan; Fosfolipid; Lubricin; Cartilage Oligomeric Matrix Protein; COMP; Adsorption; Ytkraft; Friktion; Biologisk smörjning; Gränsskiktssmörjning; Lastbärande förmåga; Synergieffekter; DLS; QCM-D; AFM.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the principles of biolubrication, focusing on synergistic effects between biolubricants. To this end surface force and friction measurements were carried out by means of Atomic Force Microscopy, using hydrophilic and hydrophobic model surfaces in salt solutions of high ionic strength (≈ 150 mM) in presence of different biolubricants.
