1. Efficient computational methods for applications in genomics
Abstract : During the last two decades, advances in molecular technology have facilitated the sequencing and analysis of ancient DNA recovered from archaeological finds, contributing to novel insights into human evolutionary history. As more ancient genetic information has become available, the need for specialized methods of analysis has also increased. READ MORE

2. Methodology and Infrastructure for Statistical Computing in Genomics : Applications for Ancient DNA
Abstract : This thesis concerns the development and evaluation of computational methods for analysis of genetic data. A particular focus is on ancient DNA recovered from archaeological finds, the analysis of which has contributed to novel insights into human evolutionary and demographic history, while also introducing new challenges and the demand for specialized methods. 3. The role of ethnic identity in care of elderly Finnish immigrants
Abstract : The role of ethnicity in care of elderly Finnish immigrants Most Western countries are becoming increasingly multicultural because of immigration. Many of these immigrants grow old in a second homeland and will need health and elderly care in the future. In Sweden, the largest immigrant group comes from its neighbouring country, Finland. 4. Evolutionary Consequences of Reproductive Strategies : Testing Theory on Sex and Reproductive Gene Evolution in the Fungal Model Neurospora
Abstract : In this thesis, I used the filamentous ascomycete genus Neurospora as a model to test theoretical predictions on the evolutionary consequences of different reproductive strategies and reproductive gene evolution. The genus Neurospora contains taxa representing a diversity of reproductive strategies, and here I constructed a phylogeny by which I was able to show that several independent transitions in reproductive mode have occurred in the evolutionary history of the genus. 5. Improved properties of thermoplastic wood flour composites
Abstract : In this study the properties of composites made of wood flour and thermoplastics have been investigated. In order to improve the interfacial adhesion between hydrophobic and nonpolar thermoplastics and hydrophilic and polar wood flour different additives have been used as compatibilizers in composites systems.
