  1. 1. Reduction of Audible Noise of a Traction Motor at PWM Operation

    Author : Hanna Amlinger; Ines Lopez Arteaga; Siv Leth; Wolfgang Kropp; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electromagnetic noise; pulse width modulation PWM ; switching frequency; traction motor; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : A dominating source for the radiated acoustic noise from a train at low speeds is the traction motor. This noise originates from electromagnetic forces acting on the structure resulting in vibrations on the surface and thus radiated noise. It is often perceived as annoying due to its tonal nature. 2. 2. Effective vibro-acoustical modelling of rubber isolators

    Author : Michael Coja; Leif Kari; Wolfgang Kropp; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Applied mechanics; Rubber isolator; Bush mounting; Dynamic stiffness; Waveguide; Fractional derivatives; Mode-matching; Pre-compressed; Prestrain; Preload; Predeformation; Viscoelasticity; Dispersion; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis, gathering four papers, concerns the enhancement in understanding and modelling of the audible dynamic stiffness of vibration rubber isolators including experimental measurements. Paper A studies the performances of three different types of vibration isolator using an indirect measurement technique to estimate the blocked dynamic transfer stiffness of each specimen. READ MORE

  3. 3. Vehicle Disc Brake Roughness Noise : Experimental Study of the Interior Noise andVibro-Acoustic Modelling of Suspension Systems

    Author : Eskil Lindberg; Nils-Erik Hörlin; Peter Göransson; Wolfgang Kropp; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; acoustics; disc brake; surface topography; wire brush noise; roughness noise; component mode synthesis; vehicle suspension;

    Abstract : Prediction of vehicle disc brake roughness noise is a non-trivial challenge. In fact, neither the source mechanisms, nor the transfer paths are so far well understood. READ MORE

  4. 4. Have Money, Will Travel : Scholarships and Academic Exchange between Sweden and the United States, 1912–1980

    Author : Christin Mays; Mikael Börjesson; Andreas Åkerlund; Blanck Dag; Kristoffer Kropp; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : The large-scale transatlantic mobility of students, teachers, and researchers is a twentieth-century phenomenon that has contributed to the reshaping of international cultural, economic, and political relations into the twenty-first century. Through and as part of this development, the United States transformed into a powerful and influential country on the global stage. READ MORE

    Abstract : The main purpose of the dissertation is to understand meaning-making practices used by people suffering from acquired brain damage with severe physical and communicative disabilities, in order to create and sustain their identity and personhood in relation to other people. The study emanates from the idea that identity and personhood, also in relation to disability, are created/sustained in ongoing interaction between people in everyday situations, and that the ability to narrate is central to such a creation of identity.
