  1. 1. On dopamine neurons : nerve fiber outgrowth and L-DOPA effects

    Author : Sara af Bjerkén; Ingrid Strömberg; Kathy Steece-Collier; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dopamine; nerve fiber outgrowth; astrocytes; ventral mesencephalon; GDNF; L-DOPA; L-DOPA induced dyskinesia; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease is a disorder mainly characterized by progressive degeneration of dopamine producing neurons in the substantia nigra of the midbrain. The most commonly used treatment strategy is to pharmacologically restore the lost function by the administration of the dopaminergic precursor L-DOPA. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dysfunction in the nigrostriatal system : effects of L-DOPA and GDNF

    Author : Nina Nevalainen; Ingrid Strömberg; Nancy Zahniser; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; L-DOPA; dyskinesia; GDNF; dopamine; glutamate; serotonin; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease is a common neurodegenerative disorder caused by nigrostriatal dopamine loss, with motor deficiencies as the primary outcome. To increase the striatal dopamine content, patients are treated with 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-l-alanine (l-DOPA). READ MORE

  3. 3. Involvement of non-dopaminergic systems in L-DOPA-induced dyskinsia

    Author : Daniella Rylander; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease; Dyskinesia; L-DOPA; 6-OHDA rat model; MPTP monkey model; glutamate; serotonin; DA.; 5-HT;

    Abstract : Parkinson's disease and L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia (LID) does not merely involve the dopamine (DA) system but also include non-dopaminergic systems such as glutamate and serotonin (5-HT). An aberrant glutamate transmission at the corticostriatal synapse, has been linked to LID. READ MORE

  4. 4. Intracellular signaling and cellular plasticity in a rat model of L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia

    Author : Jenny Westin; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; protein synthesis; Nukleinsyror; proteinsyntes; neurofysiologi; Nucleic acids; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; L-DOPA; Dopamine; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Parkinson s disease;

    Abstract : Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder where the midbrain dopaminergic neurons are lost. Presently there is no cure for PD, and the most common treatment is to replace the lost dopamine pharmacologically by administration of the dopamine precursor L-DOPA. READ MORE

  5. 5. Microdialysis as a Tool in Studies of L-Dopa and Metabolites in Malignant Melanoma and Parkinson’s Disease

    Author : Nil Dizdar (Dizdar Segrell); Bertil Kågedal; Jan-Edvin Olsson; Christer Hansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Microdialysis; L-Dopa; Malignant Melanoma; Parkinson s Disease; in vivo; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : A model with human melanoma xenografts transplanted to athymic mice has been adopted for in vivo studies of 5-S-cysteinyldopa (an intermediate pigment metabolite), glutathione, and cysteine. L-Dopa is an intermediate metabolite in pigment formation and is also important in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, and therefore 1 have also studied the pharmacokinetics of this compound.
