  1. 1. Evolution of streamlined genomes in ultra-small aquatic bacteria

    Author : Weizhou Zhao; Siv Andersson; Sandra L. Baldauf; Sarahi L Garcia; Karen Lloyd; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; streamlined genome; aquatic bacteria; single cell genomics; metagenomics; evolutionary genomics; salinity; Baltic Sea; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the evolutionary processes of streamlined genomes from aquatic bacteria adapting to different salinities, using two groups of ultra-small aquatic bacteria (LD12 Alphaproteobacteria and acI Actinobacteria). Due to difficulties in obtaining pure cultures of these bacteria, culture-free approaches (single-cell genomics and metagenomics) were used to construct and compare genomes, and to study the mechanisms and selective forces of adaptation to freshwater, brackish, and marine ecosystems. 2. 2. Growth and Characterization of Strain-engineered Si/SiGe Heterostructures Prepared by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

    Author : Ming Zhao; Wei-Xin Ni; Göran Hansson; Kang L. Wang; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Si SiGe; Strain engineering; Molecular beam epitaxy; THz; Quantum cascade; Strain relaxation; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The strain introduced by lattice mismatch is a built-in characteristic in Si/SiGe heterostructures, which has significant influences on various material properties. Proper design and precise control of strain within Si/SiGe heterostructures, i.e. READ MORE

  3. 3. Pancreatitis-Associated Pulmonary Injury

    Author : Xia Zhao; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; inflammatory mediators; protein kinase C; leukocytes; acute lung injury; abdominal sepsis; acute pancreatitis; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : In acute pancreatitis (AP), lung injury is an early occuring and important part of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. The mechanisms underlying the development of lung injury though still largely remains unclear. READ MORE

    Abstract : In recent years, climate change and human activities have caused increas- ing numbers of wildfires. Earth observation data with various spatial and temporal resolutions have shown great potential in detecting and monitoring wildfires. READ MORE

  5. 5. CarcinoEmbryonic Antigen-related Cell Adhesion Molecule 8 (CEACAM8) : Purification, Characterization, Cellular and Clinical Studies

    Author : Linshu Zhao; Per Venge; Claes Dahlgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; human neutrophil; human eosinophil; granule proteins; CEA; CEACAM8; G-CSF; ELISA; subcellular fractionation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : A 95-kDa protein was purified from normal human granulocytes. The protein reacted with a monoclonal antibody against CEACAM8. MALDI-Tof and MS/MS analyses revealed the protein to be a CGM6 gene product. Thus, the protein was proved to be identical to CEACAM8. READ MORE
