  1. 6. Viral Control of SR Protein Activity

    Author : Camilla Estmer Nilsson; Neus Visa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; adenovirus; ASF SF2; dephosphorylation; E4-ORF4; L1; MLTU; PP2A; splicing; SR proteins; vaccinia virus; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : Viruses modulate biosynthetic machineries of the host cell for a rapid and efficient virus replication. One important way of modulating protein activity in eukaryotic cells is by reversible phosphorylation. In this thesis we have studied adenovirus and vaccinia virus, two DNA viruses with different replication stategies. READ MORE

  2. 7. Regulation of Human Papillomavirus Type 16 Late L1 mRNA Splicing

    Author : Xiaoze Li; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HPV-16; cervical cancer; RNA processing; alternative splicing; splicing enhancer; splicing silencer; viral persistance; SR proteins; hnRNP proteins;

    Abstract : Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) cause almost half of the human cancers that are attributable to viruses. HPV type 16 is the most carcinogenic type among the HPVs and is detected in 50% of all cervical cancers. HPV-16 infects epithelial cells and HPV-16 gene expression is tightly linked to the differentiation stage of the infected cells. READ MORE

  3. 8. The Modular Domain Structure of ASF/SF2: Significance for its Function as a Regulator of RNA Splicing

    Author : Vita Dauksaite; Göran Akusjärvi; Javier Caceres; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; pre-mRNA splicing; alternative splicing; splicing regulation; SR proteins; ASF SF2; modular domains; adenovirus; MLTU L1; E1A; MS2; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : ASF/SF2 is an essential splicing factor, required for constitutive splicing, and functioning as a regulator of alternative splicing. ASF/SF2 is modular in structure and contains two amino-terminal RNA binding domains (RBD1 and RBD2), and a carboxy-terminal RS domain. READ MORE

  4. 9. Posttranscriptional Regulation of Human Papillomavirus Type 16 Late mRNAs

    Author : Brian Collier; Carl Baker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; HPV 16; Negative Element; Translation; mRNA stability; Codon Usage; RNA binding proteins; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : The lifecycle of the human papillomavirus (HPV) is strictly linked to the programmed differentiation of the host cell it infects. Production of late proteins, which are used for the production of the major and minor capsid proteins, is only seen upon terminal differentiation of the epithelium. READ MORE

  5. 10. The Role of Polyadenylation in Human Papillomavirus Type 16 Late Gene Expression

    Author : Daniel Öberg; Stefan Schwartz; Sheila Graham; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; HPV-16; polyadenylation; mRNA stability; codon usage; hnRNP H; DSE; splicing; negative element; RNA processing; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : High-risk type human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are associated with cancer. HPVs are strictly epitheliotropic and infect basal cell layers, establishing a life cycle strongly linked to the differentiation stage of the infected cells. The viral capsid late genes, L2 and L1, are only expressed in terminally differentiated epithelium. READ MORE
