  1. 1. Boundary layer streaks as a novel laminar flow control method

    Author : Sohrab Sattarzadeh Shirvan; Jens H. M. Fransson; Edward B. White; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layer stability; laminar to turbulent transition; laminar flow control; drag reduction; Tollmien-Schlichting waves; oblique waves; streaky boundary layers; miniature vortex generators; discrete suction;

    Abstract : A novel laminar flow control based on generation of spanwise mean velocity gradients (SVG) in a flat plate boundary layer is investigated where disturbances of different types are introduced in the wall-bounded shear layer. The experimental investigations are aimed at; (i) generating stable and steady streamwise streaks in the boundary layer which set up spanwise gradients in the mean flow, and (ii) attenuating disturbance energy growth in the streaky boundary layers and hence delaying the onset of turbulence transition. 2. 2. Modelling transport of non-spherical particles in laminar flow

    Author : Elise Holmstedt; Sofie Högberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : A model has been developed that can be used to predict the transport of non-spherical particles in the nano- and micro scale range for different applications. This may be the flow in the lungs or flow taking place during composites manufacturing, but the model can be applied to many applications where the particle Stokes and Reynolds numbers are small. 4. 4. On acoustic particle and cell manipulation in microfluidic systems

    Author : Filip Petersson; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Medicin människa och djur ; Natural science; Naturvetenskap; Technological sciences; Teknik; acoustic particle manipulation standing wave; acoustic radiation force; laminar flow; Medicine human and vertebrates ; microparticles; ultrasound; lab-on-a-chip; µ-TAS; separation; cells; microfabrication; microtechnology; microfluidics;

    Abstract : The combination of laminar flows in microfabricated channels and acoustic forces induced in ultrasonic standing wave fields offers new possibilities for advanced particle and cell manipulation in lab-on-a-chip applications as well as in relatively high throughput applications. Acoustic particle manipulation systems can be used e.g. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optimal Design of Natural and Hybrid Laminar Flow Control on Wings

    Author : Jan Oscar Pralits; KTH; []
    Keywords : Fluid; Mathematics; Aeronautics; Optimization;

    Abstract : Methods for optimal design of different means of control aredeveloped in this thesis. The main purpose is to maintain thelaminar flow on wings at a chord Reynolds number beyond what isusually transitional or turbulent. READ MORE
