  1. 1. Environmental Considerations in the Zero-waste Valorisation of Bauxite Residue : A Life Cycle Perspective

    Author : Peter James Joyce; Anna Björklund; Hellweg Stefanie; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Life Cycle Assessment LCA ; bauxite residue; waste valorisation; Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials NORM ; Life Cycle Thinking; LCA software; Circular Economy; Livscykelanalys LCA ; bauxitrest; avfallsvalorisering; naturligt förekommande radioaktiva ämnen NORM ; livscykeltänkande; LCA-programvara; cirkulär ekonomi; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Abstract : Bauxite residue, also known as red mud, is produced in large quantities as a result of alumina refining (the first stage in aluminium production), and is one of the world’s most abundant and important industrial wastes. As demand for aluminium continues to increase and space to store this residue diminishes, the potential to utilise bauxite residue as a secondary resource is increasingly being considered by the alumina industry. 2. 2. Protecting food with poison : Exploring ecotoxicity of agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals

    Author : Oskar Nyberg; Michael Tedengren; Peter Fantke; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LCA; ecotoxicology; uncertainty; antibiotics; aquaculture; pesticides; Ecotoxicology; ekotoxikologi;

    Abstract : Chemicals are being emitted into the environment through human activities, such as agriculture or animal husbandry. Emissions can either occur intentionally, as pesticide application of crops, or inadvertently, such as pharmaceutical residues in wastewater effluents. READ MORE

  3. 3. A Life Cycle Approach to Environmental Sustainability in Aggregate Production Systems

    Author : Christina Lee; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aggregates; Gravel; Sand; LCA; Production Systems; Sustainability; Life Cycle Assessment; Environmental Management; EPDs; Quarries; Tool Development; Environmental Impact; Environmental Product Declarations; Construction Products;

    Abstract : Rock materials, such as sand, gravel, and crushed rock, serve as the foundation of our society. Known collectively as aggregates, these materials are essential for building foundations, concrete, and roads, making them the second most extracted material globally after water. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis presents a comprehensive system analysis of the utilization of biowaste and forest industry residues to produce transportation fuels. It explores various aspects such as the constraints to the production system’s value chain development, the utilization of the geographical proximity of biofuel technology innovation system components, environmental impacts, and economic costs.
