  1. 1. Surgical treatment of left main coronary artery stenosis

    Author : Anders Jönsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Left main coronary artery; Surgical arterial patch angioplasty; Angiographic classification; Intravascular ultrasound; Coronary artery bypass grafting; Mortality.;

    Abstract : Clinical experience and follow-up of patients operated on with surgical arterial patch angioplasty of the left main coronary artery (LMCA) and observational retrospective studies in patients with LMCA obstruction who had undergone coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) are reported. Patients: Forty-three patients were operated on with LMCA angioplasty during 1997 - 2003. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nitrates and Left Ventricular Dysfunction

    Author : Erik Tingberg; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lipid peroxidation; malondialdehyde; peptide; brain natriuretic peptide; left ventricular dysfunction; nitrates; acute myocardial infarction; heart failure; atrial natriuretic; diuretics; echocardiography; haemodynamic measurements; neurohumoral activation; diastolic dysfunction; Cardiovascular system; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Kardiovaskulära systemet; oxidative stress; isoprostanes;

    Abstract : Use of beta-blockers and inhibitors of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) is established practice in the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF). Clinical studies also suggest beneficial long-term effects of nitrates in CHF. READ MORE

  3. 3. Insights into left atrial response to pressure and volume overload

    Author : Matteo Lisi; Michael Henein; Sergio Mondillo; Lars-Åke Lars; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Keywords Mitral regurgitation; aortic stenosis; speckle tracking echocardiography; heart transplantation; left atrial strain; left ventricualr function; right ventricular function; myocardial fibrosis;

    Abstract : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish the ability of Speckle Tracking Echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA) response to pressure and volume overload respectively in aortic stenosis (AS) and mitral regurgitation (MR), and to evaluate its accuracy in predicting LA and right ventricular (RV) fibrosis in patients with end-stage heart failure (HF) undergoing heart transplantation (HTx).I demonstrated that assessment of left ventricular (LV) long axis systolic velocity and amplitude of excursion is more sensitive than simple determination of ejection fraction (EF) for revealing the beneficial impact of MR surgery on overall LV systolic performance. 4. 4. Mitral annulus motion in left ventricular pumping

    Author : Kent Emilsson; Peter Carlens; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : This thesis focus on the role of the mitral annulus motion (MAM) versus outer contour changes in the short axis, in left ventricular (LV) pumping. The influence of atrial contraction on LV dimensions and volumes and the relation between MAM and ejection fraction (EF) in sinus rhythm and in atrial fibrillation was also studied. READ MORE

  5. 5. Surgical ablation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation in different patient populations : A study of clinical outcomes including rhythm, quality of life, atrial function and safety

    Author : Louise Bagge; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Mårten Rosenqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; surgical ablation; quality of life; vagal denervation; ganglionated plexi; left atrial function; epicardial; minimally invasive; left atrial ablation; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) have markedly reduced quality of life (QoL) and catheter ablation has become a useful tool in the rhythm control therapy. However, because of the poor outcome for patients with persistent AF, new surgical ablation strategies for rhythm control are emerging. READ MORE
