  1. 1. Ovarian Reserve and Assisted Reproduction

    Author : Thomas Brodin; Jan Holte; Matts Olovsson; Lars Berglund; Juha Tapanainen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AFC; AMH; anti-Müllerian hormone; antral follicle count; follicle-stimulating hormone; FSH; ICSI; infertility; intracytoplasmic sperm injection; in vitro fertilization; IVF; LH; live birth; luteinizing hormone; menstrual cycle; menstrual cycle length; ovarian reserve; pregnancy; reproductive endocrinology; reproductive technology; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Treatment success in IVF-ICSI is mainly limited by female age, but differences in ovarian reserve (OR; the remaining pool of oocytes and their quality) between individuals modify treatment prerequisites among women of similar age. OR may be assessed by OR tests (ORTs). READ MORE

    Abstract : Premenstrual dysphoria, so severe that it affects the lives of the women afflicted, is the condition studied in this thesis. Physiological and pharmacological mechanisms of pathogenetic relevance were investigated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Intraovarian mechanisms influencing the human corpus luteum

    Author : Ulrika Ottander; Torbjörn Hillensjö; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Corpus luteum; steroidreceptors; progesterone; LH hCG; PGF2α; ultrasonography;

    Abstract : Introduction: The human corpus luteum (CL) is a transient endocrine gland, only functionally active for about 14 days. Its principal function is to produce and secrete progesterone and thereby support the endometrium for implantation of a blastocyst and prevent rejection of the developing embryo. READ MORE

  4. 4. The brain-pituitary-gonadal axis of the three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus

    Author : Yi Ta Shao; Bertil Borg; Sylvie Dufou; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BPG axis; GnRH; lh-β; fsh-β; three-spined stickleback; Gasterosteus aculeatus; homeostasis; feedback; funktionell zoomorfologi; Functional Zoomorphology;

    Abstract : The seasonal reproduction of the three-spined stickleback is stimulated by long day photoperiod. As in other vertebrates, the reproductive system of stickleback is regulated by the brain-pituitary-gonadal (BPG) axis which is largely controlled by feedback effects. Both negative and positive feedback effects on the BPG axis have been found in fish. READ MORE

  5. 5. Expression, regulation and fuction of small ubiquitin-related modifier-1. Interaction with nuclear proteins in vivo

    Author : Linus Ruijin Shao; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SUMO-1; LH receptor; PR isoforms; caspase-3; DNA fragmentation; apoptosis; granulosa cells; HIF-1alpha; hypoxia; brain and heart;

    Abstract : The small ubiquitin-related modifier-1 (SUMO-1) is a 101-amino acid, ~12 kDa protein that is 18% identical to ubiquitin. Posttranslational covalent tagging of proteins with SUMO-1 (SUMOylation) serves many functions. For example, regulation of protein stability and modulation of transcriptional activation. READ MORE
