  1. 1. Microstructure and Gelation Behaviour of High Methoxyl and Low Methoxyl Pectin Gels and their Mixtures

    Author : Caroline E E Löfgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; rheology; kinetic behaviour; LM pectin; transmission electron microscopy; calcium; microstructure; gel formation; sucrose; HM pectin; pectin mixtures;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to explore the functional behaviour of high methoxyl (HM), low methoxyl (LM) and mixed HM/LM pectin gels of different chemical characteristics with emphasis on microstructure and kinetic rheological behaviour. The rheological properties and the structure of pectin gel networks were investigated for pectins under different sucrose, calcium and pH conditions by the means of oscillatory measurements and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). 2. 2. Expression, recognition and usage of laminin-8 (a4b1g1, Lm-411) by monocytes and neutrophils

    Author : Zenebech Wondimu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Basement membrane; laminins; myeloid cells; extravasation; migration.;

    Abstract : Laminins (LNs) are a family of large alphabetagamma heterotrimeric glycoproteins found in all basement membranes (BMs). They are expressed in a tissue- and developmental stagespecific manner and implicated in vital cellular functions, including cell adhesion, migration and signaling. READ MORE

  3. 3. Policy Framework for Material Resource Efficiency : Pathway Towards a Circular Economy

    Author : Leonidas Milios; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; resource efficiency; circular economy; policy studies; reuse; remanufacturing; recycling;

    Abstract : The strategic direction of the European Union (EU) over the past twenty years has focused on increasing resource productivity and innovation in the economy, aiming at the efficient use and secured supplies of resources, economic growth and job creation, with fewer environmental impacts. One of the basic premises of the new ‘Green Deal’ for Europe is the promotion of the circular economy. READ MORE

  4. 4. The diverse role of laminin isoforms in neuronal cells, human mast cells and blood platelets

    Author : Wondossen Sime; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Laminins; extracellular matrix; integrins; tooth pulp fibroblasts; mast cells; megakaryocytes; platelets; cell adhesion; cell migration; neurite outgrowth;

    Abstract : The close interaction of cells with other cells and with extracellular matrix (ECM) components is a prerequisite in a number of biological activities. During development of the nervous system, axons often navigate a considerable distance depending on the type of molecular factors they encounter. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cell-autonomous and paracrine mechanisms underlying Pik3ca-driven vascular malformations

    Author : Milena Petkova; Taija Mäkinen; Ebba Bråkenhielm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PI3K; PI3KCA; lymphatic malformations; H1047R;

    Abstract : Vascular malformation is a benign overgrowth of blood or lymphatic vessels leading to life-threatening consequences for affected patients. Activating mutations in the TIE2 receptor cause the majority of venous malformations (VMs), while somatic activating mutations in PIK3CA, leading to the overactivation of the PI3K-AKT pathway, cause both VMs and lymphatic malformations (LMs).
