    Abstract : Paper 1: Improving Welfare Through Climate-Friendly Agriculture: The Case of the System of Rice Intensification We use rich survey data to investigate the economic impact of a climate-friendly rice farming method known as the system of rice intensification (SRI) on the welfare of rain-dependent small-holder farmers in Tanzania. SRI reduces water consumption by half, which makes it a promising farming system in the adaptation to climate change in moisture constrained areas, and it does not require flooding of rice fields, resulting in reduced methane emissions. 2. 2. Effects of lipophosphoglycan on macrophage actin dynamics

    Author : Katarina Tejle; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Leishmania donovani is a blood-borne tropicial parasite, which infects humans through bites by Phlebotomine sandflies. The parasite survives and multiplies inside macrophages in inner organs, and causes the deadly disease visceral leishmaniasis (Kala-Azar). Lipophosphoglycan (LPG) is the major surface component of Leishmania donovani promastigotes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Leishmania donovani lipophosphoglycan : effects on actin and phagosomal maturation

    Author : Åsa Holm; Maria Fällman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Leishmania donovani promastigotes survive intracellularly in macrophages by inhibiting phagosomal maturation. This ability is conferred by surface lipophosphoglycan (LPG), which is transferred to the host-cell plasma and phagosomal membranes during phagocytosis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Essays on energy demand and renewable natural resource management

    Author : Justice Tei Mensah; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis is a collection of five self-contained papers in the area of energy demand and renewable natural resource management. Paper 1 analyzes the dynamics in cooking fuel choices among Ghanaian households over the period 2005 and 2013 and further investigate the main forces driving households’ choice of cooking fuel.
